with tight jeans I would really suggest wearing something, you don't want the rough inside of your jeans rubbing up against yourself. its not pleasant.

Neither. Try Spanx. They have "Assets" by the maker of Spanx at Target that are great. They smooth everything out and look great with tight jeans. No panty lines AND they slim you!

For comfort reasons only, I always go commando. But in my case it's because of a surgery scar.

I've never much cared for a string up my butt no matter what I'm wearing. With pants/shorts I typically go commando.
