Several choices of appropriate answers:

1. Nothing's up
2. The sky
3. You
4. What's up with YOU!
5. Same stuff, different day (SSDD)
6. The price of gas
7. Those floods that you are wearing
8. My time and I'm out.
9. Noneya
Lastly 10. I'm busy, come back later.

Any of these answers will work.

My favourite response, not to try and be funny, but just to annoy, is 'Well, directly above me are a few million molecules of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and other gases. Above that is the ceiling. Above that is another floor, with more gases. Above that is a leaf fluttering on the roof. Above that we have more gases, the density of which decreases as we go further out towards open space.' By then, people are usually annoyed so I shut up. If not, I start talking about the universe, and just side track into some random facts about planets or anything I've heard in the news to do with space.

why should you mind such a simple, warm greeting is beyond me - I do use the phrase often and if you say you getting pi***d off, I would appreciate it you tell me directly about your dislike rather than sneak behind on Yahoo answers and bit-ch about it. with anonymous people

When you respond "Oh, nothing, and you??" - that's enough for me to break ice. I am not so blind that I wouldn't notice if you're busy or not - take care peace

I almost always say "Not much, how's it going?"
I don't even think about other options anymore because I have been asked that question so many times. I don't like that question, because half the time the person asking doesn't care what my response is, & they have just been conditioned to say that when they see someone.

I respond 'hey, u alright?'
I'll tell you something, the phrase 'What's new?' That's a lot worse. I mean that really doesnt allow u to say anything really. I say 'nothing much' or 'nothing really' but I feel I have to tell them everything that has been happening in my life recently. I really baffles and annoys me! lol

I usually respond the same. It's an irritating rhetorical question. I wish I had a witty reply along the lines of "Leave me alone I'm working!" only more tactful.

seem guy, doing those issues and utilising those words that those human beings are providing you with'll purely make you seem and sound extra stereotypical. And while did ebonics exchange into perceived as a language for human beings to easily "study"?

Good question. I always say "hey not much, how are you?" but what you say oh nothing and you seems to be good enough to me short and sweet... When I am busy I just wave or say hey got to go lol! It works!

Thats just slang for saying "hey, how are you doing?" you can respond in the same way as if they were asking you that question.
