My daughter was born at 28 weeks, she was 2 pounds 13 ounces and 15 inches long. She was jaundiced (very common in premature babies), as soon as she was delivered they put her on oxygen, but had her off of it before I came out of recovery. She was fed through a ng tube for the first 4 weeks (I'm not sure of the exact time), once the suckle instinct kicked in she had no problem eating from a bottle. There was a peroid of time were she would quit breathing, and if she didn't start breathing on her own the nurses (or I) would nudge her and wake her up enough that she would start breathing again (also common in preemies). She was in the hospital for 41 days and currently has no medical issues. (The longest 41 days of my life. I used to tell my mom that I was sitting in the neonatal intensive care waiting for her to be born. She was out of me, but I used to think of the isoletes as external wombs, she was fed, care for and kept safe in it.)
At 6 years old she's a little taller than most of the other kids, she has no vision or hearing problems, no learning or behavioural problems and is a straight A student. Most people find it had to believe she was a preemie.

I work with premature babies and have had a nephew born early. At 32 weeks your baby would stay in the NICU until they were at least 36 weeks gestation. They may breathe on their own, or may need a little help. They may require an NG tube for feedings so that he/she doesn't burn too many calories while feeding. The baby would probably be jaundiced and require the light for a little while to help with that. In the long run a baby born at 32 weeks would have veyr little risk of haing any permanent developmental delays. The baby would however have soem respitory issues and would be at high risk for RSV complications, bronchiloitis, pnemonia, etc... and it would probably be best if this baby not be in any daycare setting for at least the first year if at all possible.
*It's important to note that you adjust a baby's age for prematurity. So if you had a baby at 32 weeks, you would adjust by 2 months. So when the baby is 6 months old, you would expect the baby to do what a 4 months old is doing. You adjust the age until the baby is 2 years old.

I had a 32 week baby that is 5 now. She is still underweight but other than that doesnt have anything wrong with her that a full term kid wouldnt. (she has ADHD) She was 3 lbs 2 oz and 16 inches. She was born on August 25 2001 and came home on Sept 14 th so about 3 weeks hospital stay. Also I did have another preemie 2 years later that was even earlier and it was a big difference in amount of problems early on and longer length of stay but she is 3 now and doesnt have any major issues now and she was a 27 week baby 2lbs 3 oz and 15 inches long and stayed in hospital 1 week shy of 4 months.

My daughter was born at 32 weeks and she weighed an enormous 5 lbs 2 oz. The drs were all shocked! She would have been huge! She needed oxygen and fed through a tube through her nose but after 3 1/2 weeks she got to come home and she was perfect - and still is! Now she is soon to be 2 and weighs 28 lbs.

I'm sorry you feel so guilty and sad. This was totally beyond your control. The outcome was normal, tho sad, because breastfeeding and having the baby in your arms actually produces chemicals in you (since you breastfed the others, you probably know this) that produce feelings of well-being and nurturance. You and your dear one were deprived of this process by the same medical science which saved her life. My dear husband was a preemie and his mother never ever bonded with him. The hole in his heart from that will never close but his mom is very cold and didn't have the love and concern that you do. Guilt is an appropriate emotion when we have violated our own standards voluntarily. You have not done this. So, your guilt is 'inappropriate' and you should tell yourself, when you start beating yourself up, that you are a hero (managing a preemie with kids!) and you did not in any way ACT to hurt your daughter. Seriously, find the words that make sense to you, and then challenge that inappropriate guilt with the truth. As far as sadness, yes, somethings are irretrievable and all we have from them are sadness. But you have a 2 year old daughter who is now bonded to you. We have that choice - i struggle ever day since suddenly losing my precious father - to focus on what we've lost or focus on what we have.

all babies grow at their own weight.usually they are around 3 or 4 pounds only.some will be just find and can breath others dont make it even at this stage.even 3 weeks early is pushing it because they have trouble breathing and god forbid they are gonna be born with lung problems already. keep that baby in there as long as it will stay! i had 5 and didnt want my last one to come out. lol.i knew how much i would miss this stage which is the best.

I am pregnant with twins and am 28 weeks along, I obviously have not given birth yet, but I am just checking in because I am scared of this happening since most twins are born early.

17 years ago, I had twins at 29 weeks.
They were 2lb 4 oz and 2lb and 11 oz.
They stayed in the hospital for two months and came home about two weeks prior to their expected date.
They are both just fine.
I wish you the best.
