I need to repaint a bedroom that is sunshine yellow (yuck!). What can I do to avoid having to put on ten coats of the new color?

Before you lay down the color you want to replace the yellow with use a primer base coat. At most you will have to lay down three coats of paint... two of the primer and one of the color you want.

Get a good primer first with a hint of the color you are going to paint it in it. Coat the wall 2 times and then paint. Make sure after priming, that the other color is not showing through before painting.

Use Kilz primer or a one coat primer. I had a kitchen that was pine green, which looked not too many shades off from black(very yuck). We used two coats just to be safe, and then I painted a color more close to white. Make sure you cover thoroughly though. Good Luck

Use a primer undercoat, tinted to the shade you are wanting the final coat to be. Make sure you paint around all the edges first (called cutting in) before rolling the rest, evenly covering all the wall. use the same process when painting the top coats, I would say two coats would be fine. good luck!

If it is a high gloss you need to roughen it to make new paint stick. Also you will need to prime it and still may need two cotes of paint. Might want to go darker.Kilz works pretty good but the are others on the market just look at menards or home depot. they tend to have good paint for less.

Use a primer for your first coat. Ask the hardware guy which kind covers best.

Buy Kilz primer/sealer at the same store you buy the new color paint at and have them tint the Kilz. Walmart does this and I would guess any other store would also.
