The milk industry claims that drinking 24 oz (I believe that's the number) of milk each day will aid in weight loss. However, most diets avoid dairy, and only recommend very little. I'm just wondering what everyone thinks about this. Anyone with personal experience either way? I don't mind drinking skim milk, but is this just a ploy to get us to buy more milk? I have friends who swear they only lose weight when they cut the dairy out of their diet. What do you know about it?

I don't drink milk because it has a high sugar content (12g per serving). I don't count fat or calories, I count sugar.
A serving of cottage cheese has half the sugar, yet twice the protein.

Calcium is essential to the body, and getting it from a source such as milk is preferred over taking a supplement.

Total calorie intake is what you need to worry about most with regard to weight loss. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will gain weight...if you eat fewer than you burn, you'll lose weight. It doesn't matter a whole lot (from a weightloss standpoint) if milk is part of that or not. However whole milk has unhealthy, and high calorie, fat in it.

Yes, it's sort of a ploy because obviously they want to sell more milk, but then again, no because milk will not make you fat if you have a normal, sensible diet.

Unless you are lactose intolerant dairy is a good and normal part of the diet. In excess it can definitely cause problems, but I would never eliminate it altogether.

Just cut back a little if you are dieting. That should be good enough. What will put on weight much faster than dairy products is excess refined starch.

I just know that the vitamin properties in milk are needed. I personally do not care for milk myself, but eat other foods with same stuff. On the other hand, my son, who is 19, drinks more than 24oz a day, has no problem with his weight. He does not eat real healthy but seems to maintain if not lose occasionally.

A single glass of milk each night before bed time, will give you the nutrients that you body needs for proper muscle repair and development from damage that is done during exercise. It will also help you to sleep marginally better. The perfect blend of vitamins, protein, and minerals, milk definitely does the body good!

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!
