This is something that has to be decided in each family... but personal opinion is that a child should be allowed to live at home until 21. However, after age 18, they most contribute to the house financially. Make the financial contribution based on what they are doing. Such as, if they're attending college, the contribution should be less than if they have a full open schedule.
I lived at home until 19. After I turned 18, I worked full time. My parents expected me to pay $150 a month in rent, pay for my own car and insurance payment, my own phone, and also assist with chores and make dinner at least 1x a week. I think this was very reasonable and also helped prep me for the responsibility of living on my own and budgeting.

i dont know.the world has changed a lot in the last twenty years. seems to me in many ways with lower paying entry level jobs and people going to school for a long period of time that it is kind of becoming the normal thing.
i mean people dont realy understand how different just starting out is from how it was in the seventies even.
i will say this that most of the people i know who stay at home longer end up further ahead in the long run better jobs education and with a nice little down payment for a home in the most. if your kids want to live at home longer i say let them do it.
i mean it is benificial to them and when you are old and decrepid thier increased earning potential and status could benefit you .

No, not at all. As long as you are either working and paying rent or helping out somehow, or still in school. I plan on living at home till i get married! My house is so big, there is no reason for my parents to be paying the mortgage and have all these extra bedrooms while i pay for an apartment!

That really depends. Does this person contribute to the household? If they are just sitting on their lazy rear ends then yes your way too old..get off your butt and get a damn job and get out. If they are attending school and such then it's no problem.
