First there are many different denominations because of differences-not about a belief in Jesus but about how that belief is to be practiced. The first churches were a combination of Jews and non-Jews (Gentiles) under the authority of Jesus' 12 apostles. They all were taught and practiced what is recorded in the Bible. Catholics and Mormons have certain practices and beliefs that other denominations disagree with which is why not all Christians are Catholic or Mormon or Baptist or Anglican etc. Sometimes the differences are over one point-say, whether women are allowed to preach or not. Other times they are over many issues.

Because Catholics and Mormons are subdivisions of christainity. they6 believe certain things that not all Christians believe in, yet they share the common belief in Jesus as the Son of God.

I will use geometry all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares. Catholics, Mormons, Methodists, etc. all share the common beliefs of Christians which is centered around Jesus being the Son of God, and our savior

Um, it's more like this:
All Catholics and Mormons are Christians, but not all Christians are Catholics and Mormons.
(It's because these are specific denominations of Christianity. there are many other denominations out there as well).

Christians believe Jesus was/is God.
The other stuff is optional depending on how they interpret the accepted pieces of ancient writings collectively known as the bible. Some can also follow the excluded writings or other writings. The critical factor is Jesus.

If Lutherans and Methodists are Christian, why aren't Christians not Lutheran or Methodist?
If Evangelicals and Baptists are Christian, then why arn't Christains Evangelicals or Baptists?

I believe that a christian is defined by "one who FOLLOWS Christ". His ways, His good deeds, His Commands, His Living Word"---uncompromisingly...I dont understand what is so deeply thought of as religious as that? Jesus was not at all religious...He set out to accomplish all that His (our) Heavenly Father asked Him to do...Whoever is allowing God to perfect their character to be more like Him (God) must be Christian, I'm sure that the Father doesn't classify us into different religions.. I would guess that He looks at us as each-seperately as a follower of Him --or a follower of self...
