What does an angel look like, and do they exist?

I have heard many people tell me that angels are absurd. Even many Christians tell me that they do not believe in angels. Stereotypically, an angel lives in heaven, has wings and a halo, and plays the lyre atop a cloud. Is this image correct? I'm sure that the bible speaks of angels as "cherubim" but I m not sure. Also seeing how "Elohim" is a plural word, is it referring to the angels in heaven, or is it reffering to the one God as is claimed by so many Biblical scholars, the plurality of the noun indicating greatness. I have also looked up cherub on Wikipedia, and have discovered that the tradition of putting cherubs (angels) along entrance halls goes back to the pagan cultures of the fertile crescent. The cherubim, as explained by Wikipedia, are depicted by the pagan pre-Judaic cultures as winged creatures with the bodies of lions and the heads of men. Is this evidence, along with the Gilgamesh legend, a sign of Judaism and Christianity being counterfeit religions?

Angels are scriptural created by God:
to serve God,
watch over the human race,
deliver His message,
guard and protect us from danger,
battle with other spiritual beings on our behalf.

They are suppose to be ministering spirits to serve those who inherit salvation. They physically provide for God's guidance.
They offer encouragement. Provide supernatural protection and rescue and minister as an angelic army of God even in pain and death.

Those are the things the Bible tells us about angels with repeated examples of how they influenced man, watched over him and fought for him. If you believe the Bible to be God's word then you must believe in Angels too.

Everyone knows the stories of how Satan(an angel himself) tried to raise himself up as if he too was a god. How he rebelled and how God banished him from heaven. He and his legions of followers have tried to turn mankind from God.
Through lies and deceit they promise whatever they think will accomplish this. This eternal battle for man's souls has been fought by the good angels and these bad angels. That's a basic statement of belief.

What they look like is really immaterial but they have always been pictured as tall regal angels with large expansive wings.
Why that picture? I believe that when the stories of the Bible were being passed by word of mouth they took images that the people were familiar with and used them in their explanations. So it would be totally understandable why they were seem in pagan pre-Judaic cultures. It does not make any religion counterfeit. It makes it human.

Man accepted these stories and throughout history angels have been described in that way. Personally, I think angels look like any and all mankind. They are physically without form but can assume form to permit them to follow God's directions and offer us protection.

I have never seen one but I have felt the presence of good and in my heart know it was an angel.

There are many descriptions of angels in the bible. I would suggest looking in a bible concordance, such as Strong's Concordance, so that you can see for yourself. (instead of wikipedia)

God tells us in the bible not to worship angels, as many people have and still do.

Angels are God's messengers, except for the angels that are serving satan.

Judaism and Christianity are not counterfeit religions.

Read and study the bible. The biblical prophecy that has been fulfilled to date has been 100% accurate. Thus making Judaism and Christianity the "real deal".

Angels are spirit beings (Hebrews 1:14), so they do not have any essential physical form. It definitely seems that angels have the ability to take on human form. In Genesis 18:1-19, God and two angels appeared as men and actually ate a meal with Abraham. Angels appear as men many times throughout the Bible (Joshua 5:13-14; Mark 16:5). The angelic creatures described in Isaiah 6, Ezekiel 10, and Revelation 4-5 appear quite unusual. So, angels have some form of “spiritual body” but likely we are currently incapable of truly understanding their form. Angels also have the ability to take on other forms, such as human, in order to appear to us in a manner we can understand. Whenever angels did appear to humans in the Bible, it resulted in fear, amazement, and wonder (see Daniel chapter 10).

There are Angels. God sent an Angel to the Shepherds when Jesus was born to tell them of Christ's birth. Satan is the Angel of darkness. He was the highest angel in Heaven until he decided that he wanted to be greater than God and was cast to Hell by God Himself. Read the Bible. If this is something that you are truly searching for, then that is where you will find your answers. God will reveal the answers to you if you are truly seeking. Perhaps you will find even more than you thought.

first of all, Angels are real --- However, they don't look like the stereotype 'fairies with halos' that you described.

I don't know what they look like.
However, more important is to understand their purpose concerning us:

and the Bible does give us an indication -

"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;" Psalm 91:11

Angels are those God calls upon, to intervene, to deliver messages, to watch over us...
Sometimes, I honestly believe he uses people we know (earthly angels) and other times, I believe they're around us and we don't even know they're there.

Most people mwho have experienced angelssay they appear near death. They often speak to the person near death and are presented as a warm, white glowing ball of light. The people who experience them say they feel love as they never have before and often can not explain the intense feeling. So physically they are a glowing odd shaped white light.

I have heard that angels are very powerful being that you can not look upon. Have never been in the presence of one that I know of.
