Both are great places. Without seeing your options yet, I was clicking on your question to say Las Vegas is a good October trip. Always something to see and do. I usually go in the fall or winter.

October is my favorite time to go to San Diego. There is lots to do, the weather is great , and the crowds on the beaches are gone. You can get good rates on hotels right on the beach. The average day time temp is between 65-70 and it doesn't cool down much below 55 at night - even right on the beach.
