I am a smoker and smoke in a resturant if it's allow. But do respect the lungs of others around me. I don't smoke however in my home for my kids sake, nor do I around babies or pregnant women. What are your view? Do you think no smoking in public places is fair? Why? If not why?

I smoke and I ALWAYS take it outside. I do not sit in smoking sections ever. I think it's just a courtesy. My choice to smoke shouldn't infringe on the folks who choose not too...thought I will say, this issue is totally getting out of hand...first the govt issues cigs to the military in unltd quantities and pushes the tobacco craze to an absolute max ...now the same govt is telling you it's not good for you (NIH, NSF) and is banning you from smoking...after you're hooked ...interesting eh?

Most smokers that I know are very respectful of other people.. It is the 5% that are not that need to change their ways. You know, the ones that light up in areas that are specifically marked for non-smoking.. the ones that throw their butts on the ground.. it is a big world out there, find your own little spot in it and have your smoke. It is called respect.
The same goes for non-smokers.. if you go into a place where smoking is allowed and get mad at the people that smoke.. you made that choice when you walked in the door. If you don't like it.. leave. Why make an issue?
If somebody wants to smoke.. that is their choice. Their decision, their consequence.
Is no smoking in public places fair? No.. it is an overreaction to try and get the disrespectful smokers to behave themselves at the expense of the smokers that do.
There is plenty of pollution in the air on the average city street, 2 seconds of exposure to second hand smoke should be the least of their worries. Walk away from it.
I am an overly respectful smoker. I smoke in my vehicle.. I smoke in only one room of my home. (no kids) .. and other than that.. I only smoke when I can't see anybody in sight. I hate smoking.. most people I know don't have a clue that I smoke.

When I was a smoker my views on public smoking were a little different than they are now. I did smoke in public where it was allowed and didn't really think that much about it. I did not smoke in the homes of friends who had children or didn't smoke themselves because I considered it rude. Now that I don't smoke and I've had to walk through clouds of cigarette smoke when walking into a store I wish I had not been one of those people that did that. I can fully understand why people gave me dirty looks when I was standing outside smoking. I'm not one of those ex-smokers who berates smokers though so I don't say anything when people are smoking where it's allowed.

I have smoke on and off since I was 18.
I try to be aware of those around me when I do light up. I try to stand up wind of non-smokers. If I am seated on a bench or chair, I try to hold my cigaretted down around my legs when I am not puffing.

I do not smoke in my home, no matter what the weather, I go outside. I would never smoke inside anyone's home. I hate to see smokers in their own homes where there are children smoking.

I live in Florida and smoking isn't allowed in any indoor location except bars.

HOWEVER, if a non-smoker passes by and I am in a designated smoking section, and they make some rude comment, I generally don't care, because they are in "MY" space.

Where I live, public smoking is banned, and lemme tell you, as a non-smoker, IT'S GREAT! We actually have fresh air to breathe in, instead of harmful chemicals. Businesses were worried at first with the smoking ban, but since it was imposed, they found that they were gaining more business because non-smokers were actually going out more, plus smokers were still coming around (they just had to wait to go home to have a cigarette). I think it's a great idea! Smokers may argue that it's their body and they can do what they want to it, but it's MY body and I have a RIGHT to PROTECT it, and that includes keeping smoke at bay. If someone lights up around me, I either leave or have no problem asking them if they can wait. After all, my body is my temple and it's my duty to protect it and give it a healthy life. No one has a right to infect MY body with THEIR shortcomings, and that's how it should be with everyone.

In Arizona smoking is banned most everywhere even outside of restaurants and bars.
If you're at a restaurant and you want to smoke you can't just step outside anymore - at some places you have to go to the parking lot.
Smoking is not allowed ANYWHERE in most workplaces and some employers are going so far as to not even hire smokers. (Can you say discrimination?)
There is a town here where smoking is completely banned, you can't even smoke outside - anywhere.

Yes, smoking is bad for you but it's your choice..just like it's a non-smokers choice to leave the area if they don't like itl.

I for one am concerned about the fact that slowly but surely our individual rights to choose is being taken away by control-freak, over zealous religious fanatics who have manipulated their way into the Legislature.

I think there should be no smoking indoors because it really pollutes the air and makes things stink. I wouldn't mind so much if places had those really good air circulation systems like in cigar bars.

Anytime I've been to a non-smoking bar, I feel so much better later and the next day. My lungs feel clearer, and my clothes don't stink

I have an extreme sensitivity to smoke. If you're smoking outside and I'm walking down the street behind you, it's going to irritate my eyes and nose. And sometimes the smell of your outdoor smoke gets in my coat. My tolerance has a limit. Find an addiction that I don't have to be a part of.

You may not smoke near your kids, but I'm guessing you kiss them with that ashtray mouth. Yuck...

I honestly hate it.
I hate it especially when i'm walking down a street and the person in front of me is smoking and the smoke is blowing back onto me. I've also been burned several times by people carelessly walking along the street with a cigarette in their hand.
