Seems like that is the only way this is going to get resolved. Look at Yugoslavia or the USSR. They have relative peace now.

This is not possible for the Shi'ites and Sunnis as they are mixed throughout the country. Plus what mikegolf said. There are Sunnis fighting Sunnis and Shi'ites fighting Shi'ites.

Take a look at a Iraq map. Most of the oil (and wealth) are located in one area. Seems like a nice, simple solution but no one is going to give up the oil without a fight.

Short answer? No.
I really believe that splitting up a country is more harmful than beneficial. If you split up people, you'll always have resentment about who-got-what. Resentment leads to violence and other nasty things.
A federated system is their best hope now.
And the Balkans are a ticking time bomb--Kosovo will likely go back to war with Serbia if the UN pulls out.

That's what's going to happen. One side is going to win and one side is going to either die or flee. Of course there are dozens of sides, the result of tribalism, so it's going to a long drawn out fight. One way to fight off the tribalism is to create the biggest bully on the block, which would be the Iraqi government. Weak tribes would back the government as a way to defend themselves. It woulked in the creation of Britan, the U.S. (against the native population) and Japan all of which had long drawn out fights which lead to more peaceful nations.

It looks like it may be the only possible solution.
The Kurds certainly need a country of their own.

No.
They had that option and they chose to remain a nation.
Sounds like you do not know who the factions are in Iraq. (Hint: the violence is being committed by less than 2% of the population.)

That's the way it was when Saddam was in power and Saddam tried to kill off the shiites. It obviously did not work because they are still fighting.
