You tell your Dad that he is full of c.rap. He is probably telling you that because she doesn't trust you with a car. He can easily change his policy with a company that doesn't charge for permit driver's but if you have a driver's license then there's companies that only charge for occasional drivers. (Like yourself) Allstate is pretty good about rating occasional drivers without taking an arm from your Dad.

Most companies do not require that you be added to the policy until you have an actual license. The thing is, once you get your permit you assume you will soon get your license, Sooooooo. Yes, no matter what your Dad's insurance will eventually go WAY up. It will tick back down as you get older, provided you don't have any accidents or tickets, however.

The reason young people are expensive to insure is that they wreck cars. Plain & simple.

Man, Shadow doesn't have a clue, does he... ? I have seen two answers by him so far and he's 0 for 2 on the whole insurance thing. Try video games buddy. More your speed.

You can't get insurance if you have a permit. If you have a permit, you have to be accompanied by a driver over 21.

So no, it doesn't raise your insurance until you actually get a license and have your name on the policy.

In most states your insurance does not increase until you get your actual drivers license. Call your dads insurance agent and ask them this question. They will be able to give you the correct answer for the company that your dad is insured with.

Not to get a permit. Now, when you get your actual license, that's when your Dads insurance will go up because he will have to add you to his policy.

You need to be prepared to pay the difference yourself.

In most states a young driver does not get rated on their parents policy until they actually have their drivers license. Just be sure that Dad calls his insurance company when you actually get your license and let them know!

Once you actually receive your drivers license his insurance will definately go up, but if all you have is your permit than you don't need to be added to his insurance at all.
