Most States have concealed carry laws and issue permits to citizens who qualify. The costs vary but are typically less than $100. You have to have a valid State issued ID and be fingerprinted and submit the required forms and money orders made payable to typically two State agencies in the issuing State. Once you have filled out, typically typed, the forms and had them notorized you head back to the Police Department or City County Building in your county with your money orders and they will physically fingerprint you with the old ink and paper cards and with the newer electronic scanning device that "reads" your fingerprints. You will then have to wait a few weeks up to two months before the State Police will mail your concealed carry permit to your home address. There are other requirements in some States, like Indiana, for range permits just so you can take your pistol to the public range and shoot it. Things have changed drastically since 9-11-01 as far as what kind of identification you must have to either buy or carry or shoot a handgun. Generally speaking, it's the bad guys that make the good people suffer and we have to go through these bureaucratic screenings to prove that we are the good guys.

Ohio does. I really don't see the need for it unless you work in a jewelry or liquor store or a bank.
