Many insurances are covering it for eligible females because they believe it's more cost-effective than treating cancer.

That said, some plans need a little prodding. Your best bet is to call member services (the number is on your card) and ask what pertains to your plan. Also ask if it needs to be precertified - some plans are stupid enough to require this right now.

Be advised though - even though the person at the insurance may say yes or no, it's not written in stone until they actually get the bill from the doctor for the shot. (And it costs $125 a dose for the doctor to buy, so most are charging at least $150) It might intially denied, but you can appeal it by sending them a letter telling them that you fit into the age range and it would be more cost-effective to them vs. paying for any treatment. (If there's a cancer history in your family, mention it as well.)

As the post above me states 'each insurance policy is different' so the only way you can know if Gardasil is covered is by calling your insurance company.

I went to the Gardasil site www.gardasil.com and hoped it would help you find information. I have copied and pasted the information that Gardasil provided regarding insurance coverage.

Health insurance can be very confusing but the people I have talked to with my plan are most helpful in finding my answers.

Good luck to you.

PRIVATE HEALTH PLAN COVERAGE FOR GARDASIL
While many private health plans are providing coverage for GARDASIL, the levels of coverage can vary between plans and within plans. Your specific coverage can even change over time depending, for example, on any limitations that your health insurance applies to vaccines. Because your doctor or healthcare professional has many patients with different health insurance benefits, he or she may not know your specific level of coverage for GARDASIL at the time of your office visit. Before you visit the doctor's office, consider contacting your health plan to determine your level of coverage. This information will be helpful to your doctor or healthcare professional.

By contacting your health plan directly, you can obtain the most accurate information about how your heath insurance provides coverage for GARDASIL. Call the phone number provided on your medical benefit card to learn whether any co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, or other limitations may apply.

Suggested questions to ask your health plan are provided below. This list is not exhaustive because other issues may apply based on the specific provisions of your health insurance.

QUESTIONS YOU MAY WANT TO ASK YOUR HEALTH PLAN
1. Does my health insurance provide coverage for GARDASIL?
2. Are there any restrictions on coverage? If so, what are the restrictions?
3. Will I bear any cost for GARDASIL? For example:
• Co-pay or co-insurance? If so, what amount?
• Deductibles that may apply to GARDASIL? If so, what amount?
• Extra cost if an out-of-network provider is used? If so, what amount?

4. Is there an annual coverage maximum (such as a limit on wellness or preventive services) that may affect my coverage for GARDASIL? If so, what is the coverage maximum? What is the current balance against the coverage maximum? (The amount in your health insurer’s records may not include amounts of pending insurance claims that have not been processed.)
If there is an annual coverage maximum (such as on wellness or preventive services), we suggest you discuss this issue with your doctor or healthcare professional.

Be sure to check your coverage status for GARDASIL before each visit, because coverage status may change. For example, if your health insurance has a limit on wellness or preventive services, the level of coverage could be different when you receive the second or third dose of GARDASIL.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT GARDASIL
HPV Types 16 and 18 cause 70% of cervical cancer cases, and HPV Types 6 and 11 cause 90% of genital warts cases.
GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone and does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so it is important to continue regular cervical cancer screenings.
Anyone who is allergic to the ingredients of GARDASIL should not receive the vaccine. GARDASIL is not for women who are pregnant.
GARDASIL will not treat cervical cancer and genital warts, and will not protect against diseases caused by other HPV types.
GARDASIL is given as 3 injections over 6 months and can cause pain, swelling, itching, and redness at the injection site, fever, nausea, and dizziness.
Only a doctor or healthcare professional can decide if GARDASIL is right for you or your daughter.
