Because he's about as smart as a person that would call an aircraft carrier a battleship. There hasn't been a battleship in commission for about 15 years, and you don't land planes on a battleship.

Oh, and he was a pilot in the National Guard.

Let's clear some things up:

George W Bush flew the Convair F-102 Delta Dagger in the Texas Air National Guard.

George H. W. Bush did NOT fly the F6F Hellcat during WWII, he flew a Grumman TBM Avenger, squadron VT-51, from USS San Jacinto.

I'd really like to know what world Kevin A is living in. George W Bush would hardly have any clue how to fly a modern combat aircraft, NO CLUE as to how to land one on an aircraft carrier, much less *sarcasm begins* land one on a battleship. If George W Bush could fly and land an F-18 on a battleship, then he's the smartest, most talented guy ever. *sarcasm ends*

As other's have said...he landed on an Air Craft Carrier. Yes, he was a Pilot. Trained with Texas Air Guard. He flew F-102's, our first Super Sonic Fighter. Would reach speeds of1350 kts. F-102 (AKA Deuce) was replaced by the F-106.

ret_roch, wasn't an F-104...F-104 had short stubby wings...leading edge so sharp, had to have protective covers when on tarmac. It was literally like riding in a rocket.F-104 was a work of the Skunk Works and Johnson I believe.

edit: aries_jd...I have a picture on my wall of POTUS and the F-102....why don't you google a few things before shooting off at the lip....F-104 AKA Starfighter...wing span less than 22 feet...l

That is a requirement to put on a flight suit when flying in a jet and President Bush was in the Texas
Air National Guard training to be a pilot, but this time, he was strictly a passenger. President Bush
was NOT on a US Battleship, but an US Aircraft Carrier!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was a pilot in the Texas Air National Guard but has no business in a flight suit as his flying credentials have long expired. In any case he was never qualified to fly in the navy. PS Aircraft carriers are not Battleships.

1.) It wasn't a battleship. We don't have any more battleships. it was an AIRCRAFT CARRIER

2.) Yes, he was a fighter pilot with the Texas Air National Guard and flew F-104s

3.) he had just flown aboard the AIRCRAFT CARRIER in a Navy Fighter Aircraft.

You might want to look it up, he flew that jet to that battleship and landed it. He's a pilot and very capable of flying it anywhere.
