Absolutely. i think That is a very common feeling when someone you love is suffering with an addiction. My brother in law is by far the worse alcoholic I have ever seen and I can't tell you the number of times he has been hospitalized near death. Yet each and every time he makes a "miraculous" recovery. Many times his family and I have wished while he lay in the hospital on a respirator that he would pass to relieve his pain.

I am the oldest of nine children,my father is a alcoholic,and so is my mother,have 3 brothers in jail at this present time,all 3 drug problems .Have another brother[Alcoholic] that has been lifeflighted so many times ive lost count,he has been found on rail road tracks and all,so yeah i feel your pain and yes the thought has crossed my mind.Its so hard to watch someone suffer and thers nothing u can do.I know been living it all my life.I have so many in family that dont appreciate life ,dont take care of kids,and think life is just one big party and they put all there responsibltys on me .Just gotta take 1 day at a time and hope they ll wake up some day befor its to late.Take it easy and goodluck

Not an alcoholic loved one, but I have a loved one who has been struggling so badly with mental illness that this thought came to me. It affects her functioning so severely that it has become nearly impossible for the entire family to function.
It's normal to have these thoughts when people's lives are that big of a mess. Why do you think people consider suicide and euthanasia? It's a sad thought to have, but you're not a bad person for it.

i was married to an alcoholic for 18 yrs. he was abusive physically & verbally.. i use to wish the law would drive up in my driveway & tell me he was dead.. i was scared of him.i fianally got out! best thing i ever did! that*s been over 8 years ago & i still have problems over it.. it was really bad!! good luck to you! :)

Yes, myself. I am a recovering alcoholic and i am so so so much more happy that i finally quit. I feel better and look better!!!!!!!!!! Plus my family loves me again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
