Whey protein is irrelevant to your goals and exercise program. You get more than enough protein in the food you eat every day. In addition, your body is capable of synthesizing protein to build muscle.

If you were in a heavy duty weight lifting program, it MIGHT make a slight difference.

Isn't it best to take the whey protein after a jog for recovery. How about a normal milk drink before your jog, which will given you some protein and carbohydrate for energy and the whey protein after your jog. If it is not the sweetened variety you will still need some carbs for glycogen replenishment - a banana would be a good idea. For a meal substitute you could make a fruit smoothie with the whey added but I think that you might still be hungry. Plus it can get expensive I think to do that.

I would not worry about supplementing yet. you need to focus on nailing down your whole food diet then if you need to supplement with additional protein powders you surely can.

check the site below to determine how many cals you need:

* to lose weight you want to create a caloric deficit from the diet. so you want to consume 500 calories less than your maintenace cals. don't worry about how many cals you burn during exercise, it's a waste of time. focus on your diet eating frequently and getting at least 1 hour of exercise daily
