Engagement parties are not gift giving occassions - - so they were totally in the wrong to include registry info with that invitation and to give you the notion that a gift was expected or even appropriate for that situation. Bridal Showers are gift giving occassions and it is normal to include registry info in there. The bridal shower is a separate gift giving occassion from the wedding. The wedding itself is a gift giving occassion however it is rude to include registry info in this invite (although if the couple was crude enough to include it with the engagement party invite, expect to see it in the wedding invite). So, to sum it up, if you attend all 3 events you should only give 2 gifts - - shower & wedding.

No, you don't need to send an engagement gift. It's a shame you can't attend the wedding though, even though you will send a gift. It would be a chance to meet some of your future daughter-in-law's family.

No, just give a gifts for the events you were invited to..... but if you chose to send her an engagement gift, that's very nice of you. I love vintage items and a friend's mother mailed me two cups from the 50's for our engagement- one says MOM and the other DAD on them both in pink and baby blue. They are hysterical and I love them :) She found them in her attic.
It's the thought that counts!

People don't give engagement gifts.
Why in the world aren't you going to the wedding?

On an engagement party, gifts are not necesary. A simple card will suffice.
Good luck
