I can handle anything physical, any yelling, I can stay up for days, but I have to eat at least 3 decent meals or my energy and morale is 0. In army basic nowadays do you always get 3 meals or is it earned depending on how well you do as a team.

Yah I know they start out by giving you like 2 minutes to eat, as long as its something I do not care.

@ H H

Honestly I know im sounding like a ********* and I dont mean to, I can go without food ive done it a million times before, but I am just hoping at least the first week while I am adjusting that I can eat 3 times daily. Not that my energy or morale would ACTUALLY be at 0.

you will get 3 meals a day. That will provide you the energy to function. Now the great tasting meals are another thing.

you might eat MRE's they are not the great tasting food but they will provide the nutrients needed to function.

"its not meant to taste good its meant to keep you alive"

Good Luck

You stated
"but I have to eat at least 3 decent meals or my energy and morale is 0"

See, that sounds like it might be problem if your in the military. Because I can promise you that you might be in situations where you dont get 3 meals a day. In bootcamp they might introduce that fact to you. Most of the time in normal training you do get 3 meals a day. I cannot speak for the US Army, but in US Marine bootcamp there were some training evolutions where we didnt get alot of food.

They do this to get you used to being in situations where food might not be available and you still have to accomplish tasks.

As a general rule in bootcamp atleast for me food was readily available in that I got 3 meals a day most of the time.

School of Infantry, and the Fleet Marine Force is a different story all together.

In a combat environment atleast for me food was a luxury, and we only ate when we had down time and actually had MRE's. We didnt have alot of down time atleast when I was there, and the whole time I was carrying MRE's I was thinking that I could have ditched the MRE's and carried more ammo instead.

See where I am going with this?

You have to have water, food on the other hand you only need sometimes really....

To answer your reply to my post:
If your worried about the first week dont. They are not going to automatically starve you. They will work up your training so that you can undergo more and more levels of stress, that includes deprivation of sleep and food. Training sometimes sucks. But it is designed to make you better at your job, and part of your job in the US Army no matter what your MOS is will be to stay alive/accomplish your objective given adverse conditions.

I seriously doubt you're the first person to enter Army Basic thinking they need 3 decent meals per day.

Napoleon Bonaparte once observed that "poverty and privation are the school of the soldier".

It's going to be an eye-opening experience for you. You say you can handle anything physical, yet you can't go without three meals. I'd be willing to bet you can't even IMAGINE what you can handle physically if you think you have to have three meals in a day.

When you arrive at Basic Training, remember to repeat these words to yourself: "Stand by to do some pretty amazing things." You have no idea what you're capable of doing, or doing without.

Wise recruits eat and don't talk. You'll get all the calories you can stand, because you will burn each and every one of them!

And, in 2 months, you will be in the best shape of your life, in the best group of men and women you could imagine. But, it is a weeding out period, to find the weak few, in mind and body.

You want the person on your 'six' to be mentally sound, physically fit, and absolutely alert to danger, just like you.

Some meals are memorable, and there will be a few of those, very few.(just kidding!). Not that the food is bland or tasteless. Chef and dieticians designed the meals, so they are well balanced.

The military "moves on it's stomach". You will get the very best quality food, regularly.

But, there is more. You do not want to have a worrisome attitude about anything. Millions have gone before you. We made it.

I think it all depends on what you call good meals, I know that when you are out in the field you may get some food in a box but you will come to love it, and sometime you will not be concern with what you are going to eat because the training will be so so good you will not want to think of eating.

by law they have to provide you with 3 meals a day they dont say they have to be good though:) my husband did not always get his 3 meals like when out on ftx so it depends...but theres not much time to eat it all!! learn to eat fast!!

p.s.
dont have someone send you food in a care package until you get to ait because theyll make you share it or sometimes dont even givie it to you so stay on drill sgt good side and dont have any loved ones send dirty pictures most of the time you have to show the pictures that you receive
yeah i know legally they cnt make you but who in the right mind would tell the drill dgt no?

good luck!

You will get 3 square meals a day and up to 5 minutes per meal to eat them.

You will get three meals in Boot, but when you get out, it depends on if you see action or not. The meals might not be good in civilian eyes but they will be plentyfull. I was a Jarhead but I would assume the Army chow is pretty close!

You actually won't get 'good' meals unless you are in the navy. I had some buddies in the army and they said they didn't get breakfast hardly ever. They had to have a candy bar or something in their trunk. But once a guy said they had baloney tacos. I didn't really understand that, but it can't be appetizing. They said the navy got lobster and crab. I don't know how true that is, but why would they lie. Also, before you eat, if your a lower officer, you have to stand at the table until your senior officer selects what he wants off your plate. They said they would stick their grubby fingers in all their food or lick it before he came by.

You will have to learn to eat very-very fast, so you probably won't even know what the food taste like! But you will get 3 meals, not necessarily good.
