I took the discipline specific FE exam in 1999 and passed on the first try. It's a horrible way to spend your Saturday, but it's worth it. I spent about two weeks studying, about 2 hours a day. The main things to review are your math, which is a substantial part of the morning (general) test, and the areas you've had classes in. I'm a chemical engineer, so I never had to take a statics and dynamics class. So I learned enough about those subjects to tackle the simple problems, and spent more of my time with the tough questions in areas like fluid flow that I felt I was capable of handling. The discipline specific stuff should click into place once you're up and going. If I were you I'd spend the money on one of the review books for your discipline, and take some practice exams to figure out where you're weak and what you're comfortable with. The FE exam isn't terribly hard, but it's difficult enough that some preparation is required. Good luck.

I did not find the FE exam extremely difficult, but I did spend a reasonable amount of time preparing for it. I took the exam along with a group of another ten or so fellow graduating seniors and we all passed on our first try.
This website contains some information on the pass rate for the FE exam from October 2006 if you are interested.

Good luck on the exam!

I would not worry to much about it. I took it and passed my first time, and friends of mine took it 3 times to pass and they still got great jobs b4 passing it. Like you stated, it is hard to remember things you have taken several semesters ago, but several things will stick in your mind such physics and calculus. And if you think your confident and u can take a peek, do not take another general test in the afternoon, just go do the whatever you've been learning, i.e. civil, mechanical, eletronics. Good luck

interior the hot format, you will no longer take a morning examination user-friendly to all disciplines. the hot CBT format began on one million January, 2014. it is a working laptop or notebook-based attempt (CBT.) The left edge of the demonstrate is an digital reproduction of the NCEES offered reference instruction manual. it is searchable. it is a intense high quality improve from flipping via a stressful reproduction, or making use of the index to envision quite a few listings in the back of a key-word. the terrific edge is the present question. you are able to bypass decrease backward and forward for the period of the examination. in case you bypass a query, or checklist a terrific wager, you are able to flag that query. once you comprehensive the 1st element, after fifty 5 questions, you are able to return and evaluation your flagged issues. as quickly as you submit the 1st element, you purchased a 25 minute injury. you are able to take the comprehensive 25 minutes, or much less. you are able to resume the examination once you come back. yet, in case you're taking greater effective than 25 minutes, the examination starts returned with out you. the 2nd 0.5 is the comparable because of the fact the 1st: flag questions, answer questions. attain the top, and evaluation flagged questions, then submit. No paper allowed interior the CBT version. You obtain "reusable" grid paper. It sounds like dry-erase to me. unsure. in case you sucked on the SAT and different tests, examine the e book "bypass the FE like a expert." it is written by making use of a grasp examination taker. the secret's in the way you prepare. it is all interior the e book.
