An Imam was the first person to speak during the gathering yesterday at Virginia Tech in rememberence of the victims of Cho Seung-Hi. He was the first person to condemn the actions of this deranged young man against Christian and Jewish students and teachers.

Greg M: Apparently you still don't get it... He was condemning an act of violence that was committed against Christians and Jews. No Muslims were injured or killed in the attack and yet he STILL spoke out against the atrocity that occurred.

This does not surprise me at all, because I am not one of those people who believes all Muslims are violent American-haters. You are doing a service by posting this here; perhaps it will enlighten some people.

Great. That is the right thing for any human being to do, although I am a little confused as to why we are making a big deal about it.

Is it abnormal for an Imam did the right thing and spoke out against violence? Or only when it is committed by fellow Muslims?

It is easier to condemn violent acts caused by non believers than it is to condemn violent acts caused by those of your faith. It appears that when Muslim violence is brought up, Imams tend to talk about the cause and reasons why terrorism happens rather than flatly condemning it, and that is cause for concern.

That is nice but what does that mean? Do you bring this up to prove that only peace and respect for life is taught by all imams. There are many very vocal imams that preach that all who don't come to Islam should be brutalized. With that comparison, maybe it was only that because Cho wasn't trying to convert all these people to Islam that it was offensive to this imam.

If him being Muslim was significant, I would like to have heard him denounce all violence against innocent people. Innocent being defined to include other than Muslim faithful.

I can sympathize with your desire for peace and to be associated with it, but you have to understand that it wasn't non-muslim people who established the reputation of Islam as a 'kill the infidel' group. That reputation can only be changed with the efforts of Muslims. If they police themselves and hand over those who plan such atrocities to authorities, stop such events before they happen, then such a reputation can change. But that is far from what we hear that comes from your pulpits.

An American "Imam"? From talking with other Muslims, it seems those in the Middle-East do NOT consider American Muslims "True Muslims".

But I think it's great that someone like that spoke out against violence. Now, has he spoken out about the violence that Fanatic Muslims are doing against others, including other Muslims? That's what I want to hear.

I think your question is very negative. Why?
Because the way you have put is, it appears that you are telling people Ripleys version of believe it or not - "Look, an Imam actually spoke out against violence."
This is something which should be taken for granted ie. people of religion speaking out against violence and should not warrant being highlighted.
If it is highlighted it just goes to imply that is is an exception and not a common occurence. Get it.

I find that monotheism, and Abrahamic monotheism in particular, means very little to me.

Only a creep would not condemn such actions, but if what you say is true, how sad the Imam spoke only of the Christians and Jews killed.

Statistically, they were not all Christians and Jews.

While the young man's actions were horrific, I don't like to use the word "condemn" as he was mentally ill.

I'm kind of surprised they had more than Christian religious leaders there, but I'm sure not all the victims were Christian, so it shouldn't seem strange. Nice PR move VT.

I'm glad he wanted to participate.

I think he just wants to do two things. A) Give Islam a good image again by condeming violence, something Islam has sadly become known for.

and B) Just make ammends in case the guy was a muslim. They didn't really know a lot about the guy when it was frist on the news and he could have been.

Um... so?

Do you think every single non-muslim considers you guys terrorists? Most of you don't follow Qu'ran close enough, you actually believe it's a book about peace... granted that generally means you haven't read it or you'd know otherwise, but all the same, it doesn't bother me one way or another if you have or not.

Religion has nothing to do with this situation. If every religion were destroyed and forgotten, people would still find reasons to hate and kill each other.

So,a false prophet was the first to speak over the disaster.Jesus said many will come in that day saying I am the Christ and will decieve many, even the elect if it were possible(I am one of the elect).Jesus didn't say when the false prophets arise they will do murderous evil acts and you will know they're of the devil. We're in a spiritual war my brother,be not decieved. It had two horns like a lamb but spoke as a dragon.Revelation 13:9-13 Having a likeness to Christ in appearance however the speech is full of lies and deception. Catch the Revelation.

The majority who answered seemed like a bunch of bigots.

They just can't seem to understand that it is not always possible to stop these 'Muslim' terrorists, just as it wasn't possible to stop Cho Seung-Hi from killing over 30 people.

Believe me when I say that Muslims are trying to bring about the True image of Islam. What do you think so many Muslims on R&S are doing?

What exactly must Muslims to do please you guys? Wipe ourselves from the face of the earth? If you agree, then you are bigot!
