Any doctor will tell you it is a bad idea. I slept with my babies and always worried about rolling on them but never did. Recently however my husband, whom is a firefighter/EMT, got a call to a house. The parents were sleeping with their 2 month old and the father rolled over on the baby and it suffocated the baby and it died. SO SCARY. I was completely freaked out. It can happen to anyone. Better safe than sorry. I have a 10 month old, I love to cuddle with her in bed but when it is time for me to go to sleep I lay her in her crib.

I had a preemie and the nurses told me to sleep with her on my bare chest, to help her keep warm and to help regulate her respiratory patterns. I would not have thought to do it on my own, but once I started it, it was so wonderful, I didn't stop until she was 5 months old. I was never afraid I would roll over on her. I am a very light sleeper. I could feel her every move, and even if she breathed loudly I would wake up.
It was great for me, because she could breastfeed, and basically help herself to the nipple while I slept. I didn't have to wake up to feed her every 2 hours.
So, it's up to you. But, if you do sleep with your baby, I would highly recommend waiting no more than 5 months to start transitioning her to a crib. After that, it's really hard. But usually when babies get past about 3-4 months, it becomes uncomfortable to sleep with them, since they are bigger and squirm around alot.

My daughter slept with me when she was a baby, it was the only way I could get any sleep, now she's almost 4 and I can't get her out of my bed.
There's usually an unconscience maternal instinct that knows your baby's there while you sleep, you won't roll over on your baby. I've known lots of parents that had their baby's sleep with them and I've never heard of anybody rolling over on the baby.

I've co-slept with all of my children at one time or another when they were babies. It wasn't a regular thing with any of them, but it happened on occasion.
I was never once afraid that I would roll over onto them, and I never did roll over onto any of them. I understand that some people would have that fear, but it was never a problem with me or mine.

I would NEVER do this. My hubby is an ER doctor and while it doesn't happen often, he has seen children die from getting rolled over, stuck in the headboards, etc.

We got this little mesh baby bin thinging that goes in your bed (it was nice to have a king) Target carries them I see, its about $30. Its a thin (like 1 inch) mattress with padded and mesh sides around it. We loved it.

I had my newborn sleep with me because it was easier access while nursing. But one time I fell asleep while nursing, and when I realized it I was smothering him. I never pu him to sleep with me again! It wasn't worth it.
