Chiero's right, your question is rather vague.

Depending on where you are, you might want to fly Southwest out of LAX or Burbank to OAK, then just take the shuttle to the Oakland BART station, take the BART under the bay, and you're there in SF.

Another alternative is JetBlue, which flies out of Long Beach and goes to Oakland.

Either way, it's a 50 minute flight. If you purchase in advance, you can get some pretty low fares.

Train or bus takes forever. Like 9-10 hours.

If you must drive, take I-5 north to 580 west, which will get you there in 6-7 hours, depending on how fast you drive.

If you have time, take 101 north. It's 8-9 hours, but a much prettier drive.

If you want a pretty drive Pacific Coast Highway. If you don't care then take the 5 Freeway. Or fly cus it's like a 45 minute flight.

Take Southwest Airlines from LAX to either Oakland or San Jose... Dirt cheap and great on-time performance...

best way transportation wise would be to use Amtrak
either the coast Starlight from LA) or the San Joaquin trains
with those trains you first take a bus to Bakersfield, then then train

In terms of speed? sights? If you're from LA i'm guessing you want the quickest route. fly. 45 minute flight. you'll pay as little as $49. go from Ontario or John Wayne. Not LAX.

You question is a little vague, hence the smart aleck replies.

I think you're better off flyer. Fast and cheap.

It's a long drive and gas prices are obscene.
