If you are opposed to gay rights such as marriage, what are you willing to do to keep it from becoming legal (US)? Would you be willing to protest like Fred Phelps if that was your last option to prevent the passage of guaranteed legal rights for gays?

FYI Fred Phelps: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_phelps

No, I do oppose gay rights and marriage but I'm afraid that poor Mr. Phelps is a misguided soul.
Harassing mourning people at funerals who have nothing to do with gay issues is not only immoral but quite frankly despicable. (I've considered picketing that "church's" picketers, like the bikers do!)
As a Christian I believe we need to stand up to injustices in the world but we also need to uphold God's love at the same time.

I am a fifty seven year old Christian heterosexual mom and grandma...
While I can admit that all this concern over "gay rights" makes me feel a bit uncomforatable, people like Fred Phelps make me feel downright frightened.
I don't agree with same sex marriage...but I would not step out of my front door to prevent it. It doesn't hurt me a bit if they get the license, nor will it make it legal in God's Kingdom, which is really all that matters.
I would, however, travel to see the first gay divorce. Decades of disillusioned husbands sleeping in their cars and abused wives left with nothing would probably be beside me. I'd like to see how they accept such things as "alimony" and "child support" and "community property"........
They might find out just what "marriage" is really all about!

EDIT:
Thanks to Penguinbot for telling us about France's Pax unions. Now that is something I would definitely vote for. I would support efforts to put something like that into effect in this country with my time, my money, and anything else that might help. (But I'd still want to include legal divorce, complete with all the trimmings...people who want to get "married" ought to have to accept the responsibilities as well as the rewards.)
Way to go, France!!

Do I personally agree with same-sex marriages? (Gay marriage is a discriminatory remark) No, I don't agree with them, I also don't understand the attraction to the same sex, however, that's doesn't make it wrong. So now what? Are we supposed to let our country, that many men and women have fought to free, dictate how and who its citizens may love? Whats next, you can;t marry outside your tax bracket? You can;t marry outside your religion? Where does it stop? why is it even an issue. If the people of this country were to wake the heck up and realize it is not their place to tell everyone else who they can or cannot love, and who is right and wrong to love, maybe...just maybe, we would start to sort out some of these problems here in the U.S. I'm sure the founding fathers of our country did not make views on same sex marriages because it wasn't widely known to be back then. However, I'm sure they founded this country on the beliefs that no person shall be discriminated against for what they believe, or who they love. Is this country perfect in that aspect? No. But you aren't helping the problem by trying to tell the homosexual people of the country that if they don;t believe like you, it must be made illegal, wheres the freedom in that?

why do you feel the urge to push your belief on others you dont even know. what if i decided that only blond haired blue eyed people can marry, and others are forbidden to do so. now say that you are brown haired and you fiance is not. if the law says you cannot get married, would that be fair to you? who are you to decide what is right for others. if you feel that it is wrong, this is America, and you re entitled to think so. however, when you want to specifically ban a freedom granted by the constitution with a law (freedom of expression, unless you want to argue this), that means that you have thrown away your own civil liberties. we will be a communist nation where the government can specifically choose what liberties we can and cannot have. would you like it if 10,000 gays and lesbians were at your doorstep showing off their marriage certificates? no, i wouldn't think so, so why would you want to push what you believe on to them in such a harsh similar manner?

I am not opposed to anyone's rights. If they take rights away from one group of minorities, they will take rights away from another and another and it will not stop. Personally, I am not an advocate of gay marriage. I am not opposed to gay couples having the same rights as heterosexual couples when it comes to insurance, next of kin, etc. It just should not be called marriage. I also think it's stupid for a constitutional ammendment defining marriage between one man and one woman. Lawmakers should and do have more important things to do.

Why does anyone have the right to try to dictate what types of marriages are being held outside of their own church? If you don't want it in YOUR house of worship, then oppose it there, but the JoP is there to server the people, so if two want to marry, it is their job to perform it, give them the papers, and let them be on their way. Period. They should not have the right to NOT accept homosexuals. I would never do anything to stop a marriage simply based on the genders of the people who want to marry.

People like Phelps are driven by hate and anger rather than love.

I appose gay marriage only because its sin.
Lying is sin also and I appose that.

I back law makers that that support my beliefs.
As far as me getting radical and shoving peoples sin down there throats...well I know Jesus wouldn't do that if he were here, so I'm not going to either.
Our motives should be love driven. People like Phelps push people away. We're suppose to draw people toward us by allowing the love Christ has put in our hearts to shine!!

Marriage was first done by two consenting adults between GOD and and these two people. Their the religions can deny you the "right" to get married, if the feel it is a sin.

A civil union is what many people call marriage and the state controls this. In this understanding I would be ALL FOR 2 LESBIANS or 2 HOMOSEXUALS to get married. If two people are in love it is not our place to deny them this.

I would go far in the OPPOSITE direction. Gay people have every right to get married, it is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights "All people are created equal"
So equal right for all. If gay marriage is banned in this country I will go as far as I have to, to ban ALL marriage in this country, and ban ALL organized religions that preach hate.

I'm not against gay marriage, but I think those who are should show just how opposed they are by sending all their money to organisations campaigning for sexual equality in society, and then say they were being sarcastic. Too bad if the organisations keep the money though.. haha.
