I think you could do a nice small wedding in the back yard but make it nice by having an arch decorated with flowers and white fabric. Have white chairs or chairs covered with white and tied with a bow. It would be tacky to have the reception in a room so try to see if there is space in the back yard, you could have the wedding and reception there. By "small" you probably mean 10-25 people, 2 long tables is enough for that number. Otherwise, you could opt to have it at a public park or someplace you don't have to rent.

I don't think having a wedding in the middle of the room surrounded by friends and family seated at tables is tacky at all! You could plan to do the wedding outside and use this as a back up plan in case of uncooperative weather or just have it indoors. There are arches at Lowes for gardens that would make a great focus point for you and your fiance to stand under during the ceremony if you choose to have it outdoors. Folding chairs with pretty bows and a rose petal "aisle runner" would look great. Keep things simple and use as much as you can from nature to decorate. Use small potted plants as centerpieces that double as favors. You can paint the pots with your wedding date or initials.

No way is it tacky. I had my wedding @ home in front of my fireplace. My wife and didn't have that much room either. We kept it simple by inviting a few family members from both sides and we had a great time. You can always set stuff outside to help with the small area. Just talk everything you want to accomplish with your future husband and you will be fine. Never forget to ask each others opinions about any ideas or decisions.

I don't think that is tacky at all! We had a small wedding in a church and did the reception in the church hall. It cost us very little to do this! They only charged 75 extra dollars to have the hall for 4 hours. I have so many savings ideas for you! This is just some of what we did. We made our own flower arrangements for the altar from silk roses. They looked beautiful, and I actually still have them here at my house. For the reception, I went to a place and got glass bowls, filled them with water, and had 2 rose floating candles in the middle. VERY cheap. For the food for the reception, we went to Walmart and got Fried Chicken (it was like 100.00 to feed almost 100 people) not including the side dishes but we had my family and his make those. I know it sounds crazy...but honestly, no one ever knew. It was great! Our wedding was very affordable, completely paid off and just as nice as my friend who married right after me and is now 15K in debt because of it. this is YOUR day...congrats!

this is what I am doing.... I am having a very small, 15 people including the photographer, ceremony in my parents backyard, which is beautiful. then I am having a big reception 2 days later at a park, with a semi formal picnic theme. it is fun, but still nice and dressy. I chose to do the small ceremony because there are only a very few people who I want at the ceremony. the reception is for everyone else.

I had my wedding at a Chinese restaurant (since my husband is Chinese). People sat at their tables during the short ceremony. We had it at one end of the room but the way the tables were arranged, everyone could see. If there were any complaints, none got back to me.
When planning my wedding, I read that if you do plan an outdoor wedding, have an alternative location in case of bad weather.

Contact a minister, explain the situation and you will be surprised how many ideas they have. A home wedding can be great and inexpensive. Get home type flowers, and an arbor, sit in the shade and have a great little meal aftewards that the family brings. It'll all work and be terrific, and make sure you get pictures.

Why not do an outdoor wedding at a local park or at the beach. Somewhere people can relax and you dont have to worry about cleaning up afterwards. Thats my idea.
