Consider that there's a greater purpose to the event.

What about the professor who survived the holocaust? I believe it was his age and that experience that allowed him to, without hesitation, bar the door of that room at Va Tech, allowing his students to escape gunfire and almost certain death.

Did he die? Yes. Was it awful? Most certainly. Does it give his family the knowledge that he was a selfless hero who lived through a tortured youth to save the lives of so many young people? Absolutely.

What was his life's purpose? It's clear to us now, isn't it? As if his full and extraordinary life was not enough, is there any doubt to his purpose now?

The young people who died there... what has been their life's purpose? Is it the way their story or experience touched someone else, propelling them forward to acheive their own mission? Maybe. Was it in the people they touched while they were here? The children they tutored... the homeless they collected clothing for... the parents who had a brighter existence because of the 20 years of joy they brought to the home? Maybe so.

A baby who dies in infancy. What is that purpose? Is it the way the parents' lives change? The way they are forever affected by that experience? Personal growth comes only through pain. Perhaps the child's mission was simply to promote personal growth in the parents.

The 6 year old who is molested by a grandfather? What is that child's greater purpose? Certainly it was not to be a plaything for a mentally ill man. Perhaps her greater purpose will be fulfilled when she's older and has processed through her experience, giving her understanding and compassion for other young women who have had similar experiences. Perhaps she's destined to be a teacher... a protector of children... a mental health professional... a Child Protective Services social worker... a mother and grandmother full of wisdom and pain that's caused emotional growth beyond comprehension.

Always seek the greater purpose. We don't always understand it... but I believe it always exists. Every experience, no matter how painful, is an opportunity to learn... to teach... or both.

God doesn't "allow" it in the sense you are asking this question. God allows it by giving humans free will.

God gave us a free will. Evil exists because we as humans choose to do things that "ought not be", in other words we sin. We have to make the right choices. When we don't, pain enters the world.

That doesn't mean that God approves of bad decisions, it means that God is following up on Ze end of the bargain. We get free will, we must choose to do good with it.

Pain resulting from evil is not good, but good can come out of it if we learn from and overcome the pain to be better people.

Remember life isn't fair. We all don't have fairy tale lives. We don't have a right to that kind of perfect life either. Evil exists because people get confused and choose to do things that ought not have happened. Choosing to sin is evil.

Remember: choosing to forgive is divine.

I don't believe that God is a "HE." It is a Power. God is the Power of LOVE. We all have the power of love available to us. The grandfather chose not to use it. The 6 year old did not deserve the abuse - but just because a God exists (a Power of Love exists) - that does not mean bad things won't happen. How we react to these "bad things" is what's important. Do you know this 6 year old? Have you reached out to her with LOVE (the God within you). Maybe she will grow up to help others who have been molested. Maybe she will discover the power of forgiveness and live an awesome life because she was able to forgive (not CONDONE, BUT FORGIVE) what that man did to her. There are many times we don't know why things happen. That's when our faith comes into play. I believe that everything is as it should be at all times. And I believe that God is the Power of Love. And I believe that it is MY JOB to let that love flow through me - as best as I can.

Namaste!

This is always a tough subject... I know I myself have to wonder why bad things happen to good/innocent people. Here's what I know: We were sent to this earth to be tried and tested. In the pre existence we agreed to come down and get our bodies, and face whatever trials came our way. God gave us agency, agency to accept, agency to not accept, ageny to be good, agency to be bad. Unfortunately, this child was affected by an AWEFUL decision made by someone misusing their agency. That person will have to answer to God when he gets to where he's going. In the mean time, that little girl has an experience, however terrible and unwanted, that will in the end make her a stronger person. All our experiences, good or bad, controlable or not, make us who we are. God is good, he is their and he DOES answer prayers. I know I would have an aweful time coming to grips with it if something like that were to ever happen to my children. We love them so much and don't want them to get hurt ever. However without experiencing pain, we would not know the true meaning of joy and peace. Without experiencing hate, we would not know what love really is. Without experiencing greef, we would not appreciate laughter.
A lot of times when things like this happen, people turn away from the one thing that can help them get through these trying times, and that IS GOD! Now is a time more then ever to pray, get close to him and at least make the best out of a terrible situation since this can't be undone.
God bless,
Sarah

Why is God always responsible for everyones actions? Apparently nobody has a mind of their own. Why are we here then? So God can control all of our thoughts? I have a huge problem with molesters and murderers and criminals, but is it really God letting it happen? I am not religious. I don't know if there is a God or not, but if there is I wouldn't think that everything that happens is up to him.

Sometimes seeing anything good in something so tragic and bad is difficult, coming from the same situation(now im all grown up) everything that happens to us happens for a reason and there's not always someone to blame. The things that happen to us define who we are not how we live. This is a long road for this poor baby but it may make her strong enough in the future to handle something worse than this. God is good and will shine his light on her .

The grandfather chose to be evil and inflict pain and suffering on that child, he imposed his free will on the child, and took away the child's free will. People do evil things with their free will, if G-D stopped everybody then we would be terrified of G-D and worship him out of fear, and he wants your love not fear. Everyone will pay for their evil deeds if they don't ask for forgiveness and stop the evil they are doing. Again the V Tech shooter had free will to do his evil deeds. Mans inhumanity to man. The devil has no power to make man do anything against their free will.

one of the things kind of good about God is that he's weird... in a good way.
It may look like he's not looking, but he actually is. It's all part of life, people die and live and what God does to us is a great plan for a meaningful and a lovely life..

On the V. Tech incidents... do you think being laughed at because of your voice and telling you 'go back to China!' A good thing at all? I don't think so everyone is a victim and a suspect... so i think everyone's on equal footing here

According to some Eastern Philosophy, God allows people the opportunity to act according to their own desires, with the condition that they will have to be the recipient of the consequences themselves, if not in this life, then the next. Therefore, no one can be truly innocent, but because we do not remember our past lives, (thankfully), it appears that innocent children and others are suffering at the hands of monsters. Actually, it may be that the child, in their own past life, committed a similar act against a child, and is now reaping the consequences. That grandfather, who committed the act against the child, will suffer the same treatment in his next life, unless he somehow is able to pay for it in this one. The child, having paid the price for their previous act, is now free of it, and hopefully, will never again repeat it.

This philosophy does not permit us to judge the child as deserving of the treatment, nor does it condone such acts. It simply explains the system of justice that we all are subjected to. Even the bible says that "You reap what you sow". One of the precepts that we all have heard is, "What goes around, comes around". We just think it always happens in this life. The law of Karma is also the law of action and reaction.

So, yes, God permitted a man to act on his own desires, but He arranged it so that the act was committed against one who had to receive the reactions of their own desires, from a previous life. This law of karma seems unjust and unfair, but only because we cannot remember our past lives, in which we committed so many faults that we had to once again be born on this material planet to "reap" what we have "sown".

God is sovereign over everything, all the time. This includes evil and sin. We don't see the big picture of why or how come. But perhaps if we don't taste or see how evil sin can be/is, we can't begin to taste or see how good or wonderful God is. He is infinitely good and wise. We can't judge anyone, let alone judge God.
