I have always been one of those people whose like "its just a pet", but this has really dealt a blow to me. Im at work crying and already telling myself I will never get another dog. I plan to go home and drink myself to sleep as soon as possible, but I feel...who knows, I was actually gonna call out of work tomorrow. I still can't belive me dog is dead I've only had it for two years(brand new as a puppy)!!! He just came from the vet, perfectly healthy three weeks ago! Do dogs die suddenly like this?

My sister said he was vomiting and very weak late last night, I made arrangements for her to take him to the vet today. When she got there he was gone.

Have vet do a post mortum study to determine cause of death. It sounds like it could be from pet food. A lot of food that hasn't been recalled , yet is killing dogs and cats.
I suddenly lost 3 of my dogs.
If it is from pet food you can sue.
I know it's hard to lose a pet. But, getting another right away does help a lot.

You don't have to be confused. It is very common to fell pain when you lose a pet. I lost my pomeranian after having her for 4 years. She was the first dog I ever had and she died suddenly in the back yard. I don't know if something feel on her or what. I was a wreck for about a week afterwards. I couldn't stop crying, I layed in the bed, I couldn't eat, and I had to drink to numb the pain. It was very difficult and I still think about her everyday and that was over a year ago. So I feel your pain, but you should be better in a week or so. You have to learn to live life without them.
As far as how your dog died, I'm not sure. There's really no telling b/c dogs can get into all kinds of things. He could have overheated, choked on something, etc. If you're really concerned you can get an autopsy done on your dog at the vet's office.
Sorry for your loss :(

I was the same way until I got my Lab. Dogs give you unconditional love and when they pass on it's like losing a member of your family. Taking a day off is probably a good thing to do so you can deal with the grief. Drinking yourself to sleep isn't such a good idea, though. I would take the dog's remains to the Vet and see if they can determine the cause of death. There might have been, as someone mentioned, criminal activity here. As for another dog, in time I think you'll realize that a pet is a wonderful addition to your life. Give a home, when you're ready, to a rescue. All the best.

I am sorry to hear that your dog died. My dog died right after Christmas and I was devastated and said that I would not get another, but guess what I did and I love my new little girl. I also did call off work for two days I just could not stop crying. I know its hard right now but it does get easier.

As far as a sudden death, it can happen, but I would check with your vet to see what did go wrong. My dog died quite suddenly they said she had bullas, which are sudden ruptures of the lungs that cause air to leak into their chest and she was just fine the day before running around and such and then all of the sudden everything went wrong. There was nothing that I could do.

Good Luck and sorry to hear about your dog.

no dogs dont just die most live at least 10-11years some 16 years. i would see if it had anything to do with tainted dog food (the food recall)
what was your dog at the vet for?
if he was 2 years old thats not old hes just beginning adult life.
its sad when you lose a loved pet i lost a siamesse cat last year in may.a couple of months i got a black and white cat named socks he helped me cope with the loss of my cat
but i still think of him sometimes
i suggest first you find out what caused the death
then get a new puppy or dog
from a shelter (that will be the best gift you can give your dog
give a new one a loving home
but dogs dont die suddenly something happen
talk with your vet.good luck.

First, very sorry for your loss, it does hurt but you can heal ( drinking will not help or make it better ) time heals as does getting another pet for some people and yes, dogs can die suddenly, wo knowing symptoms or short of an autopsy ( yes they do do them on animals - but it isn't cheap ) it is hard to say why she died ! Some breeds, especially large ones - like great danes, etc have weaker hearts so they don't live as long, but 2 years would be young even then !

Why did your dog die so young?
You are going through PTSD the same as grief. You became attached to your dog as if it were a person and you feel the loss...like a hand out of the bucket.
Don't anesthesize yourself with alcohol. You'll pay tomorrow and your dog will still be gone. Give yourself some time and do something like volunteering at a shelter...give back what you got...and since you work and can't spend time with your animal, decide if it's best to replace it.

I'm sorry. It could have been a lot of things. You might want to have the vet autopsy the dog to give you some answers. Have a good cry, take the day off. You do sound like a wonderful owner though. Maybe another pup in time would be so lucky.

It sounds very unlikley that your dog just passed away for no reason. I would consider checking this website http://www.nutroproducts.com/mfproductlist.asp
This has a complete list of the food recalled by Menu Foods. And as I heard on the radio this morning they just found even more foods that they have added to the list. I am at this moment very wary of the supposed "safe" foods and if you don't use any of the food on the list I would still check the ingrediants for wheat gluten, there is always a chance that Menu Foods is not the only company to get tainted wheat. The other companys could not have found it yet or they are choosing to ignore it...

I am so sorry about your loss. Your dog crept into your soul and became a piece of your heart. But a suddenly loss at that age is questionable. I would call the vet, at least to advise the vet about the death.

Crying is normal over a loss of something you love. Those friends at work, especially those who are pet loves, will truly understand.
