stop pretending to help people and just tell them, "I'm sorry, the bible said that the poor would always exist, so it's God's will that we let you suffer"? Honestly, isn't that about the crappiest copout answer on the planet! Just because there is one verse in the bible saying that doesn't make it an infallible curse of God--we still need to try!

You're so right!! That is the absolute worst copout ever uttered. The Bible also tells us to help the poor, widowed, and orphaned. He was not telling us to leave them in their misery in that passage. He was addressing the fact that He would not be with His disciples on the earth for long and that they needed to pay attention to Him before He was taken from them.
Of course the best help you can give the poor is the ability to support themselves, if they are capable to do so.

I Totally Disagree with you - Sorry!

My God is Loving, Tender, Mercifull and Forgiving God! Yes, He IS Judgemental and has EVERY Right to be so!

The Truth of Missionaries (I've been a few places) they are there to 'Share the Word'! Yes, we have helped to build homes, get water to a village, open a medical treatment place and schools. I see NOTHING WRONG with That!

I also believe somehow - not understanding it - that 'some' do have God's curse on them - with what they have done in their own lives, but, this was thier choice. God Gives us 'Free Will' to follow Him or .................. Watch out - there are all kinds of warnings in the Bible if one does not follow what the Will of the LORD is in that persons life! Unfortunately - I've seen it - It's a horrible thing to see, Loss of EVERYTHING including Health - Aids, Cancer, Various Disabilities and the Like - But only the LORD is the only one who can decide what will happen in our lives. We cannot decide our lives - It IS up to God All Mighty! We Can try to help - To Blaim God - Wrong!

Yes there have always been 'poor' for 'some' 'That' IS the will of God in their lives. I don't understand it - But I do not have God's mind!

Be at Peace

Take Care and God Bless!

Besides, that's not a curse, it's a fact that Jesus wanted us to be aware of. Amazing how many people want to blame God just because He knows things will happen. They take a leap and assume He makes them happen! If I know the sun is going to rise tomorrow morning, but do I necessarily make it happen? Let's not be ridiculous. You are right, sir. We do need to keep on trying. Jesus said so. Feed the poor, visit the sick and in prison, clothe the naked... If the poor will be with us always, we should be doing these things. Always.

It's not a curse of God, it a curse caused by man, by socieity. Our systems of government and economics are to blame. Despite the poor always being here, Christians are still commanded to feed the poor, to help the fatherless, etc. I do not know of any atheists organizations in the missionary fields.

I agree with you once again. People still should try and help others. Are not we Christians obligated to follow Jesus example? He would help all people. He didn't turn people away. So if some one can help some one else they should. This isn't just about money. If some one knows of some one who can not buy food. Then go and give them so food. There are many ways of helping.

Who tries more to alleviate the suffering of the poor more than missionaries? I think you have been watching too many Hollywood movies. I know many who are laying down their lives, from Africa to the jungles of Irian Jaya to let people know there is a God in heaven who loves them and who answers prayer.

The Christian missionaries are sent there of God to help people and to preach to them the Gospel of Gods Saving Grace.

The curse is a conscequence of disobedience.

Your picture looks like Randy. Are you Randy?

Exactly!

But, I've never met missionaries who go around spreading that message?

I'm Mormon and I know an LDS missionary would not do that.

Missionaries disgust me for the most part. If they are there to help that is well and good but no lying.

They go to Nepal and tell these people that if they don't believe what they tell them to believe and pray what they tell them to pray than they are going to hell. The thought of that infuriates me!

Cop-out answers are what christianity is all about. Oh and the billions of tax-free dollars fleeced from gullible sheep every year. Don't forget that...
