Loretadine is the chemical in Alavert and Claritin. These are brand name products made by the original manufacturer who created these products.

The generic loretadine is made by another manufacturer, and since they didn't have the cost of development, they charge less for the product.

In many or most cases there's little to no difference. Dimetapp is one product where I KNOW the difference... my kids could be blind folded and still recognize the flavor of the real Dimetapp vs. the generic form of the medicine (which tasted bad).

It's generally fine to use the generic and it saves you a lot of money.

the only difference worth being concerned about it price.

generic loratedine and name-brand Claritin are the same thing...they are therapeutically identical...your body won't know which one you are taking, but your wallet will.

there might be a couple of cosmetic differences...shape of the pill, markings stamped into the pill when it is made...but nothing that will change your therapeutic response

remember, Aspirin used to be a name-brand medicine, then it, too went off-patent and aspirin became interchangeable with acetylsalicylic acid.....

Generics are not supposed to be any different. I use generics in all my Rx meds and have no problems. (Generics are also cheaper!)
