Which "Spanish" should I learn?

So, I'm confused... I want to learn Spanish and am using a computer program and a spanish/english dictionary. However, my computer says that car=carro, while the dictionary says that car=coche. Which is right and how come there is a dicrepency?

There are different terms used in different countries. For example when I live in Chile they use auto for car, but when I lived in Puerto Rico they use carro. Coche also means car. The solution is to use the terminology in the area you are visiting or living. Overall Spanish is the same everywhere, but some words are different in different areas, just like in English.

Techincally both terms (carro and coche) are correct. However, the country and region you are in will likely affect the variety that you hear. Carro is commonly used in places like Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Mexico and others. However in certain countries like Argentina or Spain you are more likely to hear coche. While these differences might seem confusing at first one has to understand that it's just how the language is. We have our differences in English yet for the most part we are still able to effortlessly communicate with one another. If you are planning to go to a specific countries make sure you research it and find out about the common Spanish words used there as well as the slang (much like in English the slang terms in Spanish vary greatly from one country to the next).

First of all it's God, proper noun. God doesn't just give you what you want simply because you wish for it, He's not a genie. You have to actually believe in him without sarcasm because He is a loving and jealous God, He wants to be your only one without exception. To give you an example say a Husband and a Wife are having marital issues and deep down inside they want to work it out. They shouldn't expect to find an envelope on the street with B&B, Movie and Dinner passes. No rather God would probably bring them closer through a crisis of sort that they would need to call upon one another and the glory of Gods love. This way they grow from the challange and come back together. No one really knows how Gods infinate and infaluable wisdom works, that's why He's a God. You are special in a way you've not yet discovered and through faith and devotion you'll quickly find out how you are special. It sounds corny but give reading the Bible a try, go to your library and grab a copy of the New American Bible (student version if they have it) and read the book of John for starter. It's a best seller so you know the stories are actually page turners. Say a quick prayer asking God to give you the wisdom to find your answers in the Bible. If you do decide to learn more please don't run off and join a "Mom & Pop" church, try an older religion (2000 years old or more) like the Catholic Church (Apostolic Sucession).

It is a very good question. I'm from Argentina and here to the car we call it auto, it comes from 'automòvil' as a shorter form.
There are many synonyms and names given to the things according to the region of the world you are in.
There is an Spanish version which is undestanding for everybody and it doesn't have slang.
It is the International Spanish which it is spoken for example in the movies translations, as a matter of fact many children in Argentina speak International Spanish while they play because they imitate the way in which their heros speak on tv. Don't worry about the slang, if you learn International Spanish everybody will be able to undestand you.

Carro is used mainly in Latin America.

Coche is used in Spain.

There will be many words that are called different depending on whether you are talking about Latin America or Spain, the main thing is that at the end of the road we all understand each other.

There is only one Spanish language. However, it is spoken differently and various words are used that mean the same thing.

Much like in England, although they speak English, a truck, is called a lorie.

To really learn a language, especially Spanish, you want to strive to be understood. To achieve this goal, you need to learn as much different vocabulary as possible.

the main difference concerning the spanish language is usually there's Spanish (castilian) and Latin American... think of it as English and American - even though our dialects are based on the same language, the words used are often different

they are both right, its just in spanish there are different ways in saying it. cubans puertoricans, venezeulen, etc. have different ways of saying things.
