Validity of Marriages Abroad - In general, marriages which are legally performed and valid abroad are also legally valid in the United States.

Here's the article for you to read: http://marriage.about.com/cs/marriagelicenses/a/marriageabroad.htm

According to this, as long as your marriage was legally binding in whatever foreign country you married and you can provide sufficient proof of it, you can authenticate it in the United States (for a fee of course).

In general, marriages which are legally performed and valid abroad are also legally valid in the United States. Inquiries regarding the validity of a marriage abroad should be directed to the attorney general of the state in the United States where the parties to the marriage live.

Understand that you must follow the rules of the foreign country, even if they differ from those of the state in which you live. The validity of your marriage in the United States depends on your compliance with these foreign laws.

Depends, what country you are getting married in. Like if you go to the Bahamas, you have to get a marriage license in Florida for it to be valid. What's close to it? Find out the marriage license requirements for that country and how they handle nonresidents marriage license. But, regardless of where it is, it is valid. You just have to keep up with the certified and signed marriage license.
