First off do not listen to the people who tell you proactive, the celebs are paid to do those commercials and probably don't even use it, it made my skin even worse
I have battled with oily/acne prone skin since high school and have tried every over the counter product and nothing ever worked or was short lived
The best stuff I have found is Dermalogica I use their anti-bac cleanser which is for oily/acne prone skin and I also use their oil control lotion which can also be used as a moisturizer
both work great and have helped extremely in clearing both oil and acne
for rare pimples that do come I put a warm cloth over it for a bit apply a little pressure and then apply any over the counter benzoyl peroxide
good luck!

Acne is no longer just an issue for young skin - adult-onset acne can persist for people in their 30s, 40s and even beyond. Many factors have influenced this phenomenon - stress, hormonal fluctuations, genetic predispositions and even environmental factors. It happened to me too.
I use Skinlogics from BeautiControl and it helps to keep mine at bay for the most part. But, if that doesn't do the trick, they also have an acne line called All Clear. I've had many clients that use the All Clear after using/trying many other treatments out there and this works the best for them. As for me...Skinlogics is enough.
Hope that helps!

I've had problems with acne since I was about 12. I tried a lot of stuff and it works a few weeks then my skin got used to it I guess. So I finally tried Proactive, it's fairly expensive, and I've heard both bad and good about it. But it works for me! It's worked for about 7 months now and the 3 step program has a lotion as the 3rd step! For most it doesn't dry skin, but I have found I get dry skin over the winter. So you can use any moisturizer as long as it doesn't have lots of oils in it. Also use oil free make up remover. Shea Body Butter made by Tree Hut works good. But I use it at night as it takes a while to soak in. After I wash my face in the morning, before applying make up I use Fresh White Musk Fantasy by PERFUMES de COEUR. It works great and dries fast so you can apply your makeup over it. That's what I do... hope this helps!

Right now my skin is perfectly clear, for the first time in 3 years. It's been about 9 weeks and all my acne is gone. It is such a great feeling to wake up with clear skin.

Stress wrecks havoc on us. We tend to be less focused on important issues like sleeping better and eating in a well rounded way (drink water, sleep 8 + hours, and touching on good foods). So we get run down and a break out happens.
I honestly believe we are what we eat and we should focus on doing a really good regime.
Arbonne makes a wonderful regime called Clear Advantage. It's a 4 step regime wash, toner, cream with a daily supplement to fight acne before it starts.
I also like that it doesn't have a lot of the harsher chemicals in it that many brands to -
It also comes with a (free) eye cream which is nice to combat the aging thing too - just a suggestion.
My son uses it with great success and his MD endorsed it because of it being botanical and good for you -

Well first breathe (stress never helped anyone). Water consumption and diet could play a huge role, evaluate what you consume. There are some great products out there that I can suggest.
First is
Sircuit SAVIOR
Problem Skin Cleanser
Non-Sulfate face wash with 2% Salicylic Acid and 5% Lactic Acid to clear pores, exfoliate, soften skin and help prevent blemishes. SaviorTM will thoroughly clean and help keep your skin clear without over-drying or stripping. Formulated with anti-mictobial and anti-bacterial Organic Olive Leaf, Organic Tea Tree Oil, TotarolTM and anti-septic Organic Peppermint.
Free of artificial colors, fragrance, preservatives and always cruelty free.
Immuderm
Dermatologists say it gives healthy skin the power to fight off the things that age us-sun, smoke and stress-to quickly eliminate and regenerate injured or infected cells and to maintain clear, healthy skin.
I promise they are both amazing products that can really help!

I was recently introduced to a product called Luxiva. It has great results leaving your skin with a soft non-oil glow. It is very inexpensive and doesn't dry out your skin. I have tried proactive, but it excessively dries out my skin, damaging it. I have had results with this product in no less than 4 days. It really works. It has 3 steps, cleanser, toner, and moisturizer. Try it. Go onto merlenorman.com and search for this product.

Adult acne is can have several causes. Here are articles about it: http://www.webmd.com/skin-problems-and-treatments/features/adult-acne
http://beauty.about.com/od/skinflaws/a/adultacne.htm
Personally, I recommend Aveeno Positively Radiant Daily Cleansing Pads. One side is smooth & the other side is textured for extra exfoliation.
Alternate w/ a benzoyl peroxide wash like Oxy 10 or PanOxyl bar soap. BP can be drying & make your skin sensitive to the sun so adjust according & use sunscreen.
If you don't like benzoyl peroxide, try a toner or face mask w/ salicylic acid. (ex. Neutrogena & Aveeno)
Clay masks can help too. I like Beauty w/o Cruelty, Murad and Origins Charcoal Mask. Neutrogena makes a clay mask/toner w/ b.p. that's good for spot treatment or if you're skin gets really oily during hot weather.
You can also apply a thin layer of plain Milk of Magnesia & let it dry for 5-10 minutes. This mask will absorb oil & temporarily tighten pores.
Desert Essence Blemish Stick is a great spot treatment. It's available @ Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, etc.
Here are some other remedies to consider:
Crush up 6 plain, uncoated aspirin tablets and mix it w/ a little water to make mask.
Or use one of these variations to make a cleanser or mask:
Mixture: 6 crushed aspirins, mixed with the liquid facial cleanser at hand (I usually use either cetaphil or tersaseptic), and 1-2 drops of tea tree oil.
Mix half a teaspoon of crushed tablets with Queen Helene Mint Julep mask and aloe vera gel.
Held 6 aspirin in your palm, and slowly dripped water onto them until they fizzled and dissolved! Once dissolved, add 2-3 drops of honey into it and mixed it around with my finger. Applied to face. Keep it on 15-20 mins.
Mix 6 aspirin tablets with a little aloe to make a mask.
Use about 6 uncoated tablets, witch hazel, tee trea oil, and aloe to make a thin paste.
Use a toner. Witch hazel w/o alcohol or little alcohol or
for toner
or
8 ounce bottle of distilled water add four uncoated aspirin
or
mix of 1/2 water, 1/2 witch hazel, 15 aspirin, and 2 drops of tea tree essential oil and 2 drops of rosemary essential oil

Garnier Fructis has a nice face care line now that purifies with out drying your skin.
Also I like to use Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne wash and the scrub version (1x a week for the scrub), with the coordinating toner.
It really helps. I also use a vitamin e moisturizer, any vitamin e moisturizer should work pretty well.
hope this helps.
