Someone asked a question, claiming that Mormons wearing shirts with these slogans were hanging out on the strip in Las Vegas.
I found the word choices to be really odd for a bunch of Mormons. I grew up LDS, and never once heard phrases like that, the first time I went to a different Christian church, it shocked the hell out of me.
So, what say you?

Oscar, what I'm saying is that the LDS faith is pretty homogenous with beliefs and missionary methods, and what you posted simply did not fit. I never heard the words "hell" or "burn" in a Mormon church.

Bad Penguin's response was well stated to which I agree. I've never seen such phrases on T-shirts or billboards executed by Mormons.
We're simply not into that sort of advertising admonitions.

No I don't use phrases like that, nor would I wear a shirt like that.
Was that kid LDS? - maybe, there's always those few that do things totally contrary to the teachings of the church, but anyway, your memories of phrases like that not being used in our church are right on.
Thanks
edit - Reading from Oscar - they may have been members, but there's definitely no way they were missionaries. For one missionaries have a very strict dress code, and even more so, Vegas missionaries are not allowed anywhere near the strip. If they go there, they are sent home - end of mission.

I've never seen it either, but I suppose there's a first time for everything.
The usual shirts I see on LDS youth are things like CTR, or "Stripling Warriors-Mama's Boys" or something like that.
There is always the possibility that this family was NOT LDS, but said they were. It's happened before, people pretend to be LDS, to give the church a bad name.

I was the one who asked the question she is referring to. They were on the strip, 2 families, wearing white T-Shirts, oversized, on all of the participants.
They were walking up and down the strip between NYNY and Monte Carlo and were politely stopping people to talk to them about gambling.
Their rhetoric was nowhere near as agressive as their slogans, which I believe were for shock value, to get people to stop and talk to them.
I asked them who they were and they said they were from the Church of the Latter Day Saints, I didn't know what that was so I asked and they confirmed they were Mormons.
Personally I think their tactics worked, if they'd have had slogan on as suggested by some of the other people in response to this question, there is no way I would have stopped, but the SSS type of message worked well I thought.
Even though I still think it is all hypocrisy.
By the way - the 2nd responder to the question (pretending to the Korean Student) -Not funny mate.
I can only tell you what they told me, to be fair, I have done a quick search on google and come up with a lot of sites talking about Christan preachers and one showing some people in Miami doing the same, but the T-shirts look different. Perhaps the person I spoke to was trying to cause controversy, or perhaps they were trying something new.
However regardless of whether they are LSD or Christian or whatever, my point about Religion by hypocritical still remains. Things done in the name of 'God' are often murderous, evil, nasty etc - why?
Why are there so many countries at war in the name of religion?
If god did exist and if religion was good, we wouldn't be fighting over it would we? We wouldn't be killing people because of it would we? We wouldn't be forcing the religion down other people throats would we? We'd be able to ahev a constructive agrument about scoience Vs religion and you'd be able to prove that evolution didn't occur and that god does exist.
As I have said many times, religion is fine if you use it for comfort and solace, it can be quite communal can't it, but surely the hypocrisy of having loads of wives, or starting wars, or even just shouting at people in the street make it wrong.

I am LDS and have never heard of anyone wearing such slogans. While LDS are encouraged to become active in community affairs and advocate for their beliefs, they are not encouraged to be disparaging or rude to to others. Those wearing such slogans, if they were LDS, would be out of step with the mainstream tenets

I don't because I don't go around telling people they are going to hell...that's usually the lovely Christians.
I have seen t-shirts that say "Army of Helaman" or "Royal Army" or things like that, but not the phrases you gave, I have been LDS my whole life in Utah even. 26 years.

I have never heard anyone say that before noetheless any other LDS people. I was kind-of surprised to see that question. I have never heard someone say that before.
(Me and my friends do have inside jokes of our own, but only say them around other LDS members and in a joking fasion.)

I'm with you Bettie. I grew up surrounded by mormons. It's my understanding that non-mormons go to a lesser level of heaven. Hell is only reserved for a very evil few.
