This is not about agnostics or atheists or any other adjective designed to 'label' non religious people. It is about what seems logical given years of research from not just science but man's progression. It seems logical that religion was a way of controlling the people years ago.Doesn't it? It seems logical that after seeing a tsunami one would call it a miracle?Doesn't it?It must have seemes logical that the earth was square years ago? But then time progressed and we realised that these thiings can now be explained? This is exhausting...Can anyone out there really answer me NO to these questions?

jason h_yes I agree but I don't make a system up to explain 'beauty' for example. The natural world mystifies and amazes me everyday, I don't have to make something up because I don't know the answer! I know that the sum 456x364 isn't 36, as the title suggests I don;t know the correct answer yet as I don't have a calculator or abacus because it is 2000 years ago (example) therefore shall I make one up? No, I will hope someone smarter than me can do the sum or explain the sum or invent a calculator! You see?

All religions, every single one, in fact, everything in th whole entire universe that we know, is based on faith. Faith = a strong or unshakable belief in something that CANNOT BE PROVEN. We take everything that science explains as true, but that BELIEF is flawed. We have FAITH that our eyes do not deceive us, that our ears do not lie to us, and our hands do what we want them to do. But this doesn't always happen and so, we believe in something we can't see or feel. We needed religion to explain things we couldn't understand and now that we think we've explained it all, religion is more important than ever, to keep us humble and looking upwards.

I have to admit that your question is a very unique and very open for controversy and opinions. I believe you answered your own question very well in your question but this is how I look at things. It may not be the answer and I would imagine not too many would agree with me since everyone has their own ideas on this topic. First of all, what is logic? Some would say it's the capability for correct and valid reasoning. The Greeks believed it was the study of arguments, then even others would say that "logic" is based on decision, not by physical properties or logical drives. Now with this in mind on your views of religion that one could say that religion was a way of controlling people of that certain time frame. In Roman times, Romans only wanted one type of religion. Theirs! Look at the Egyptians. Perfect example of controlling people. You believed in their Gods no "ifs" or "buts" about it. No exceptions. Look at the Mayans, similar to the Egyptians beliefs. Controlling ones mind was a big issue here to keep law and order I would expect. Now it's not an issue, as it was back then. We have the right to choose our own religion or not to have a religion. Now to the miracle of a tsunami. I don't necessarily agree with you on this one. Why? and I'm not trying to be rude or disrespectful here, but what is your reasoning that a tsunami would be a miracle or am I reading this wrong? In my opinion, a Tsunami is a natural occurance after a very strong earthquake not considered a miracle but a force of "mother nature" so do speak. A violent response after the fact. To your next issue which was the earth being square then thru time progressed into a circular object doesn't seem to fit thru scientific discoveries. Yes, back in time, people did think that the world was flat until they took that initial step and sailed beyond the horizon to find out that it wasn't so. I see your point. But again what is logic. Your views on logic might be different from mine or different from anothers point of view. I have to agree with the Greeks definition on Logic:( the study of arguments)...lol. So I guess my answer to your question is I can't say No, I can argue the ideals but you're right, who can say "no". This is a very good question. Thank you for putting my brain to work this morning..lol Have a great day!

Logic - praise be. Whilst not infallible Science is certainly the way forward. They use labs and tubes and stuff to PROVE that things happen and why.
I have nothing against religion as such, just the way it is forced on us by certain people. Why do our kids get thought about God at school - we have no choice in the matter really. Why do we seems to always suffer from religious people shouting in the middle of our towns and cities preaching to us?
It seems to me that scientists are prepared for debate, yet few religious ministers of any religion will be prepared to stand behind a lecturn and argue, with compelling facts that their version is true. It always degenerates into shouting and preaching.
Personally whilst religio undoubtedly does good for many (people using the god concept for comfort and solace) it is also used as a excuse for evil by a significant few.
We get wars, murders, rapes, vandalism, abuse, assault all in the name of religion.
One of the most ridiculous thing recently being the fact that about 200 Saudis lost their job working for Lurpak in Saudi Arabia, due to the fact that sale fell through the floor as Muslims across the world boycotted Lurpak, because it was Danish, and a Danish cartoonist (who doesn't work foror own Lurpak) drew some cartoons about the Prophet.
How can THAT possibly show religion in a positive light?

Well one definition of miracle is something that occurs that defys the laws of physics. So logic cant explain a miracle using that definition. Yes religion can be used to control people but only if you let it. Me personally i dont care for religion its not about religion its about a spiritual relationship with Jesus Christ by his Holy Spirit. Logic has a hard time explaining the spiritual things of God.

It was never logical. Logic ends before the supernatural can begin.
However, religion *is* a way to control people. I'm not religious, but there are some people who are too evil to expect to act decently. I truly believe they need to believe in a magical afterlife to keep them in line.

Belief in God isn't "logical". Then again not all things we know to be true, are logical. If you decide to open your mind and truly seek out God, you will find Him. He doesn't fit like we want Him to, that is to say it will never seem "logical". But you won't need any more proof than He will provide. Just don't be frightened to seek.

You're right, it's exhausting.
I'll save us both a lot of time and say yes, I can't say no.
Except for the last question where I'll have to say no, but only for myself, so it doesn't really count because it's a 'can anyone' question and I'm only me.
Phew.
Now I need to sit down.

i'll play devil's advocate
because i pretty much agree...
not everything is logical
beauty isnt logical
why are we here?
where did we come from?
where are we going?
blind chance and survival of the fittest
arent good enough theories to explain this

The questioner has to make certain for themselves precise and incorrect.,. think of roughly it... if we had the means to mark incorrect... then what could stop somebody from wrongly marking a precise answer incorrect...
