thank you all for your help, the problem is, however, I don't have any papers from unemployment, to call them won't help because it's automated and the only choices are for people who wish to file claims. I am in NYC, if anyone knows how to get in contact with unemployment and/or get the necessary forms please let me know, I really appreciate it.

And the peopel who did my taxes did not know how to go about this matter. They told me to wait and see, however, I know if I wait, I will be in trouble with the IRS.

Call the state and ask for a duplicate of the form showing your unemployment info. They might just read the numbers to you over the phone, then mail a copy to you for your records.

Then file an amended return, showing ALL your income including the UC.

Best thing to do is to file a 1040X to include the unemployment info. You'll probably have to call to get a new copy of the unemployment statement. The 1040X can be confusing so it is best to consult a professional.

If you don't do this, you'll probably get a letter from the IRS stating that they have made changes to your return (they already know about the unemployment) and you owe another $X (or possibly get $X more back depending on if there were taxes withheld on your unemployemnt). If you go this route it'll probably take at least a few months and you'll get hit with interest if you owe more money. If you fix it now, you can avoid the interest or at least limit the amount you will have to pay.

Yikes! Don't send in a new return marked amended. File form 1040X to amend a return. Instructions and forms are available at www.irs.gov under forms and publications. You'll need to find out how much unemployment you received and if any taxes were withheld. Call your states unemployment office or check their website to see if they can get you a new copy for your records. You only have to have the actual form to send in if you have withholdings (in case the state did not report them correctly to the irs and you want to get credit for it, mistakes do happen).

You need to remember you are running a company and you have to pay all your business expenses out before you calculate your profits. Your business expenses will obviously include all the fuel you use getting too and from the wholesaler, heating lighting etc costs for where you work from, even if this is the family home you are using it for business so some of this cost is deductible for the tax man. If you eat out with colleagues and the wholesaler and clients this is all tax deductible so get and keep all these bits of paper. the phone, postage to clients and potential clients, Internet costs, including the computer, to keep aware of market trends, shoe leather if you have to walk for your retailing work is a business expense. you can claim the tax back on all of that. Think outside the box on every penny you spend on your business in whatever way. Get receipts for everything!! Put the receipts in envelopes marked "April" "may" etc, and get a good accountant to go through it at the end of the tax year. Ask people you know who work for themselves who they use. If your accountant does not save you more than his fees to do your taxes, look for a better one. You really do need to get some proof of where you get your merchandise (or the back of a lorry with be the suspicion) and evidence of profits to prove you are making as much as you say.

You need to seek a tax professional, you need to file an amended form, however it usually costs money to file an amended tax form so make sure you keep that in mind. I am not sure how much though. Good Luck!

If you can't call the state, go into the unemployment office and tell them you need a duplicate 1099 for your 2006 unemployment.

Send an amended return.
Talk to your tax professional about how to handle it.

You can file an amended return. Write AMENDED at the top of your corrected return and send it in.
