....did people back then really have a 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, 60 minutes an hour, 60 seconds a minute system?

Is it really 900 years+ or just some flawed weirdass ancient mathematical arithmatic?

Or the 6000 years part....

Hmmm....

Just mythology. If Noah existed at all (doubtful), he was probably a compilation of several people.

Well, your question certainly begs for a mathematical answer. I once read in Scientific American magazine that one scientist had evidence that the day was only 18 hours long during the Jurassic period where the largest dinosaurs thrived. He claimed that if the day was shorter, then the earth was obviously spinning faster, and gravity would have been less, and that would account for why the dinosaurs were able to grow so big. The weight of a body is what limits the size it can become, due to the effects of gravity. I believe if the day WAS only 18 hours long, maybe the rest of the year might have been shorter, too. Maybe the Moon revolved faster, too. There are other religious theories, which I do not pay attention to, because they are not based on sound science. However, if more evidence was discovered in the future, I would not discount it on religious grounds. The Bible speaks of "the circle of the Earth", and that "the Earth hangeth upon nothing". Statements that were only verified as true thousands of years later. I am not the one to judge.

First of all, the Old Testament started as a oral tradition. Seems highly likely the story kept getting better and better with retelling. Secondly, people in that time and place did not have a firm grasp on what are today elementary concepts of numbers and mathematics. Did you every notice how many times the number forty comes up in the Bible? Many modern scholars say that the persistence of the number forty comes from either the writers or the translators inability to grasp large numbers. Since they could not comprehend large quantities, everything was described as forty.

Arabs had much more advanced ideas about mathematics, which is why the Arabic numeral system survives to this day.

Divide 900 by 12 (number of months in a year) and you get 75. I see no reason why many people couldn't have lived to that age. Granted, not everyone would have lived into their seventies, but those who did would be noted for this.

It would appear that the ancients were using months as years, or even measuring time by lunar cycles. This would throw the math off a bit, but you see where I'm going with this. Their way of keeping track of the passage of time was simply different from ours.

Since the earths rotation is slowing, the days would have been a little shorter. Maybe at the outside even a few seconds.
The environment pre-flood was different. It is possible people may have lived much longer. The Bible does not give the life history or every person-just parts of the seed line of the Messiah.

Well science has proven the earth use to have a shield of ice. And science also shows us this fact in amber and ice cores. And science shows us that if this is true, then the earth would be just like an oxygen chamber. And science shows us if someone lives in an oxygen chamber, it heals their body, it makes them stronger, younger and even bigger if placed in there at birth. As animals and plants show this growth factor.

So now take all that science, and apply it to Noah's time, and it becomes 100% logical and clear, not some myth, for science alone tells us it is all fact.

As you can see there are many explanations as to why people lived so long in the old testament. As a Christian, the one that makes the most sense to me is when God first made man (Adam) he made us pure and without sin. A much more "heavenly" body then what we have now. With sin came the deteriation of that body. The Great Flood washed the Earth clean, but we quickly made into what it was before, a world of sin.

Actually, the years were 360 days in length back then- as recorded both in the Bible and secular history.

A pristine environment existed before the flood...and men were not that far removed from the perfect man created by God. After the flood, the lifespan of men quickly decreased, as recorded in the Bible- and mankind has "devolved".

A good example of just this sort of thing is the decline in the protein content of wheat just over the last hundred years. I believe wheat currently contains around 17% protien. 100 years ago, it contained 24% protien. As the quality of our food decreases, we see the consequences of increased degenerative diseases and more of them. In 1900, one in every 44 people would get some form of cancer in their lifetime. Today, 1 out of every 2 people will have some form of cancer in their lifetime. This is just one example, and only showing how things have worsened in just 100 years. Imagine how different it was 4-6,000 years ago?!

time as you see it does not exist....... time is just a device created by the human mind.... to explain its experience...... hence you experience time..........you call it past and future..... you can only go to the past or future in your mind...... if they are real..... then why cant you see it or touch it ? :) there is no past or future..... this moment.... the moment you are experiencing right now.... is all that there is....... it is endless... it has no beginning and has no end..... you will experience this even after you leave the body......... we live till 80 or thereabouts... because of the beliefs of the mind.....in south america...... there were a group of tribe some 500 years back...... they lived in seclusion from the rest of the world.... they had a very different concept of time....... hence it manifested in reality.... they used to send messages amongst each other by runners...... the best runners... who were required to run the fastest and the longest.... were 60 year olds ..... they were healthy.... and at their prime.... .. today science proves.... that 90 % of your illnesses are related to the mind....to go inside a mind is hell..... its all zipping from one place to another....... this is just the mind.... think about all the physical reasons...... so many years back.... the mind was very simple..... and the concept of time didnt exist.....

I'll bet Noah had some back problems, and sore feet.

I take it as an actual 900 years, give or take.

Indeed We sent Noah to his people and he stayed among them nine-hundred fifty years (inviting them to believe in the Oneness of God (Monotheism) and discard the false gods and other deities). (Qur’an 29:14 )

Try to read the story of Prophet Noah from the Holy Qur'an

you will not lose any thing .
