Night by Elie Wiesel. It is mandatory reading in high school so you may get extra points for it. It is a very is read and the subject matter will definitely deserve an A.

The Scarlet Letter or Mice of Men...both really good books. They may be a bit beyond your level though. It's been awhile since I've been in 8th grade. Oh, also try Animal Farm, very political.

"Call It Courage" by Armstrong Sperry. It is fairly short (about 100 pages), has a good story with a moral lesson, and won a Newbery Medal.

I don't know what your project involves, but you could read it easily over the weekend and compare it to "My Side of the Mountain', "Hatchet", "Julie of the Wolves","Island of the Blue Dolphins", or "The Cay".
