like it is fact and you were there at the time?? Are you stupid? YOU WERE NOT THERE! Just because it is written down and YOU WERE told that it is correct does not mean it is. Do you believe everything you are told?? Why are you so gullable? You keep quoting these phrases from that book like anybody cares? Stop it and enter the world of reasonable people who don't cause wars and get along with each other. How can that not be a better way to live?

Have you considered the reliability of the bible? Ignore for the moment the whole notion of God and just think about the book's content.

Investigation by even the most skeptical will also reveal that there exists NO SINGLE SCIENTIFIC DISCOVERY that has been shown to prove error, factually or doctrinally, in the Bible. There is lots of speculation and hypotheses, but not a single verifiable fact. If you or anyone should discover one, you will become quite famous. Yet, since recorded history, no one has offered it up and entered their names into the history books. Instead what we have is pseudo-science pandering to the masses, as in the recent John Cameron tomb of Christ debacle.

As a simple experiment, try turning your objective intellect towards the argument that no book, comprising 66 “mini-books”, written over a period of 1500 years by 40 vastly different authors, having an outstanding literary internal consistency and coherency, could be written by mankind alone. Add to that the survival of the book’s ancient manuscripts, numbering in the tens of thousands, over thousands of years and yet these manuscripts remain over 98% textually pure. How this possible, when compared to all the other ancient writings are so few in number? For instance, the Dead Sea Scrolls contain all books of the Old Testament, except Esther, and have been dated to before the time of Christ. Now consider Julius Caesar’s Gallic Wars. Only ten copies written about 1,000 years after the event are in existence. In comparison, there are over 24,000+ New Testament manuscripts, the earliest one dating to within 24 years after Christ. How can we objectively and rationally explain this book, the Bible, especially in light of the claims I have made above?

You'll always be on shaky ground when you ridicule religion. If you had left the question as it was without the hurtful(to bible-quoters) additives you may have got an answer that taught you something. You either have faith (whatever you may call it) or you haven't. If you have faith it is because you believe. I f you believe in something you are quite prepared to quote it as support for the point you are trying to make. A fellow once said to a bloke called Thomas, 2000 years ago," If you don't believe, stick your hand in my side and convince yourself. How are those in the future going to believe without being able to do that?"
I've just read "Ask Mr."and I'm afraid I cannot subscribe to his way of debating. We shouldn't try and prove that we are right and they are wrong. That's not what it is all about. We should be trying to explain our whys and wherefores so that maybe a non-believer is not so one-eyed. e.g. you want to be told where something is wrong in the Bible? What are the pillars outside King Solomon's temple made of? The Bible says "brass". 1000 years befor Christ is in the Bronze age. Brass was not discovered for another 500 years. I forget where in the Book, but it does tell the reader that the mountains shine with Brass. Brass is a Composite metal, Copper and Zinc, so it couldn't be that. two to one they meant Copper. When King James had the Bible written the Clerks obviously made mistakes but it knocks holes in your argument so it's better to stay off it. I'm a believer and no-one will ever shake my faith which enables me to argue logically.

There isn't any point out of god within the US Constitution. The point out of god on a few of our forex didn't start till eighty years after the Constitution used to be followed. I have no idea wherein you get the notion that the US used to be a Judeo-Christian country from the begin. I do not suppose that is precise in any respect. You without doubt do not get that influence from studying the US Constitution, that is the best regulation of the land. You handiest point out two of the founding fathers. There had been extra, and a few had been extra devout than Franklin and Jefferson.

What a crass statement you call me a non thinker so all wars were caused by believers? If you bothered to research your question you would find many Christians and those of other faiths are scientists and other learned men and women but of course that would expose your prejudice and that just can't do can it. The bible is a mix of inspiration ,history , morals and law in the Gospels which are four accounts of Jesus's life and ministry it clearly teaches peace and forgiveness and charity but I'm sure you know that but prefer to ignore it.

Well, I am not one otf those who constantly quote from the Bible, but I'll post anyways. The Bible is an important book that has influenced many, and has a lot of great teachings. I don't think that it is fact, rather, a look into the mindset of the people who wrote it, and some very interesting and provocative philosophy. So, people quote from it just like they might quote Rene Descartes. Think of it like that.

Okay...people quote fromt he Bible because some of what is said needs to be heard and some people have forgotten (or don't know) that it is in the Bible so they need to hear it from someone else. Some of it is very encouraging, I really like Jeremiah and Isaiah. I think that they are two of the most encouraging books in the Bible. I also quote it to remind myself of the things that God has promised.

just because people are religious it doesnt mean they are gullible. and also, if you are religious, you don't necessarily quote from the bible, you could quote the koran, or any other historic writings. people follow a faith because it helps them get by in the world or cope, if you don't need an abstract concept that may feel real to you to get through life then thats cool. other people do. i don't remember there ever being any abuse to people who are sporty and wear trainers all the time because thats what they feel comfortable in and will tell you which brand is better for what. same thing applies for any religion

why do you ask questions in a RELIGION AND SPIRITUALITY section and then expect to get a scientific answer?

You have no right to tell anyone what they are told or not, alot of "religious" people found too be that way on their own, mostly in their ADULT life.

We were all young at one point and struggled with God/Religion.

I have some great advice for you:

Go somewhere else if you do not like religious answers...

So by your statement we can assume you are a non thinker also right? Religious people think as much as those who are non religious. Get your head out of the sand and use your head for something more then a place to put your hat.

I agree, it's just like saying "It's in USA Today so it must be true". I am all for people who can put forward a compelling argument and convince me of the facts, but this 'believe us because we say so and it is written" is nonsense.

So far the only compelling arguments are from people like Charles Dickens who went to those islands and saw the turtles.
