Just like tha Japanese did in WW2?

I know it would be a waste since the nuke wouldnt be targeted at any particular strategic location.

Wouldnt it be a "psichological" strike?

But is it possible?

(this was really a funny question from the start)

can a hot air balloon be detected by radar?

Is the jet stream the same as from japan? i.e. would the bombs go in the good general direction or end up in India?

Is it possible? Yes.

But as you point out, the Japanese did the same thing during WW2. If you recall, they released thousands of these balloon bombs into the jet stream. However very few (less than 10 I believe) made it to the US. The likelyhood of the weapon actually reaching the US would be so small that doing so would be a waste of time and precious resources. I do not believe that N. Korea has enough fissionable material to waste in such a fashon.

Out of some 9000 bombs launched by Japan, only about 1,000 actually made it to the US and Canada, and of those there was one case of six people being killed by the bomb carried by the balloon.

Using the same logic, I think you've essentially answered your own question...sure they could!

For decades North Korea has used balloons to send propaganda leaflets to the South Korea side of the DMZ.

That would be a "psychological" strike! A nuclear device would go beyond "psychological."

Don't you think that a bomb carrying balloon just might be detected by radar waaay before it got anywhere near the US?

Well, they probably could put one on the backs of a group of Coolies and send it south to boot.

yes, but the people riding in the balloon wouldn't be able to get away fast enough so they'd be toast
