You have to sign away your heterosexuality when you join the Navy, so it really won't matter for you.

By "ladies," I wonder if you mean the BAR HOGS who will take your money or do you mean the REAL LADIES of the area. I've found if you treat ANYONE in a foreign country with respect, you will most likely get the same in return. After being in 32 countries(some more than once), and being stationed in 3, I have found that is the rule. If you learn a few phrases, no matter how mangled you make them (except for most of Francs), the people, in general, will be more receptive and willing to extend friendship. Act like a jerk and you'll be treated like you have the plague.

In my 15 years with the Navy, I stopped in Mexico (Acapulco), Korea (Pusan), numerous ports in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila, Baharain, Jeb Ali, Perth/ Fremantle, and Hobart, Tasmania...
I wasn't LOOKING for "comfort" from the local ladies... but obviously would enjoy taking a look within the restrictions of local culture.
Australia / Tasmania gals were the MOST outgoing... and obviously since we all spoke English, the easiest to communicate with. My division actually got gathered up as escorts for a group of gals on a "hens-night-out". Great fun, polite...
Acapulco was a blast also... in 1996 USS Kitty Hawk was the first Carrier to visit in about 40 years, and we arrived just a few months after a major hurricane. We delivered 2 fire-trucks and 3 ambulances donated by the Navy/Marine Corps, we rebuilt 2 schools and an orphanage... and YES we also gave the nightclubs and hotels business like they hadn't seen in a year. My group met a STUNNING gal from Columbia and her husband... and she translated for us... in fact introduced one of my guys to a darling girl he married a year later.
I know there are pigs out there who treat ladies like whores at all times... and as an NCO and later an Officer I enjoyed having a quiet word with such individuals.
I liked, and demanded of my friends, shipmates, and division... BEING an Ambassador if the US Navy and the United States. Behave, conform to culture, and respect the country we're visiting.
SURE in the PI I rocked a bed with the girls at the Rufadora Hotel (helicopter bar/club/ hotel)... but we also did the work with the Chaplains too.
