17 years and 11mos (The summer I graduated high school). I have to say they did a lot to help me though. I married at 18 and they paid for the wedding and gave us furniture. I mean these things really helped. When they bought my stepsister a new car (who was still living at home) I was 23 (and married for 5 years) and they bought me a new car too to be fair. They have helped me out a lot. Even though my parents are divorced they have helped me out equally. Anytime I have borrowed money I always paid it back. I have to say if my parents hadn't helped us out the way they did we would not have had as easy of a financial road. My husband is in the military and we would have been fine but we have a lot less financial burden bc of the help so don't be afraid to ask or accept gifts when they are offered. Good luck to you and it is normal for parents to help their children. They don't have to but most do out of love and the desire for a better life for their children.

Im 24, I have a 14 month old. When I was pregnant, my mom help us get into our first apt.. we paid half back. We moved into a better place and we did it on our own. If Im in a real bind I may ask (as a last restort) But I would only borrow the money for a few days and give it back. And we havent even done that in a long time. Hopefully we wont ever have to again. Im glad that she is there when we really need it. But I would rather her see that her baby girl will be fine when she isnt around anymore.
Now, she will ask if i want her to paypal money for baby clothes or, like when Jadyn was ready for a new car seat..she offered to buy it. I tell her we are ok, and its not needed (even if it is) but if she wants to she can. I dont want her to feel like we Need her help. Shes done enough for us thus far.
I think its ok if you have the money to help your children out. But also let them feel what its like to live in the real world.. because you wont be around to clean us their messes forever.

I moved out when I was 20, have never asked for or received financial help. Except for my dad co-signing a car loan, only because I had no credit yet. But he didn't actually contribute anything monetary, I paid it all myself. I'm happy to say I am and always have been financially independent.

I moved on-campus for college at age 18 and buy most of my own clothes, shoes, toiletries, and food. My parents still assist me when making major payments, such as tuition. I am entering my junior year of college in the fall and anticipate having an apartment by then. When I begin renting, I will also receive some assistance from my parents, but I will still need to work to pay for utilities, food, clothes, etc.

I left home when I was 18. I never could ask my parents for financial help, they didn't have any money.

I was 18 years old. Just finished high school, had to get a job. Actually I had three (morning , afternoon, evening) to pay my rent etc. Till this day, haven't asked them for support in any way. I'm too proud... I usually make a plan B. It can be REALLY tough I know. I believe in: they fulfilled all my needs for 18 years, now it's my turn to help them IF THEY need my help in any other way, they know I'll be there.....
(till this day, they haven't need my help)
