In an answer to a previous question, a christian made the argument that guns are a tool from god that allows us to protect ourselves? Why would he need to give us tools to protect ourselves if he told us to turn the other cheek when struck?

Jan, the only use for a gun is to kill, you can't build houses with bullets unless you are very patient and immune to lead poisoning.

Boon asked:
- How do you know if the person is a Christian? The term God is not an exclusive word used by Christians.
You're right, I assumed.
- So, even if he/she claims that he/she is a Christian (perhaps an ignorant one), why do you have to specifically note that in your question?
Because it seemed pertinent, as a bhuddist wouldn't likely make such a comment and if they were bhuddist it could be dismissed as a troll bhuddist, however there are a large number of christian responses to this question that affirm my original assumption
Are you trying to mock the person or Christians in general?
Yes.
- Do you have any hatred toward Christianity?
No, just a casual amusement of them.

Guns are in no way a gift from God.
You say Christians in general as if this appeals to all of them.
Guns may be thought a tool from God from some group of over zealous Christians, but that is like saying fake plastic grapes are a tool from god--these grapes may very well appeal to one group of people but not the people who like guns.
Guns served there purpose long ago-people no longer need venture out and discover knew terriotory or, hunt for their own food.
Guns are a tool from man--not God- What happened to thou shalt not kill
do unto others as you would do unto yourself
turn the other cheek etc...
Ive never herd of
thou shalt grab thy rifle and shoot them mu*tha F****ckers up!!!!!!

I have some questions too:

- So, even if he/she claims that he/she is a Christian (perhaps an ignorant one), why do you have to specifically note that in your question?
- Are you trying to mock the person or Christians in general?
Please do critique one's opinion, but claiming all apples are bad because you have found one bad apple is not a very learned or intelligent action.
- Do you have any hatred toward Christianity? If you do, I would suggest you solve your problems first before lashing out your biased and unfounded hatred toward others. I don't want to hear another massacres or rampages from such uninformed group of people.

Did you only ask this question to get a laugh? What God gave us is a brain to make tools that we use:
A gun is the same as a hammer:
you can build the most beautiful home with it, or you can hit someone on the head with it. Same hammer. Depends on who has the hammer in their hand, now doesn't it?
Christians are told in Scripture that a man (no gender intended) who does not protect himself, his spouse, children and property is worthless. Self defense should be the most basic of instincts. A gun is just a tool, and it cannot do any good nor any harm, except in the hand of a person, whose intent can either be to build or to destroy.

Only in the case of protecting oneself against an enemy (like in war). An example is King David, before he was King, He slew the giant with a sling shot & stones. A bullet is a stone. So, this was killing the enemy who wanted to kill Gods people. And the gift was the ability.
But guns aren't a gift from God, but the devil provides the tools to destroy. Guns too easily kill neighbors. It doesn't take as much skill to kill with a gun. (at least compared with a sling shot) Just an evil mind.
The gift from God (armor) to do Christian warfare is found in Ephesians 6.
Also, it is written that every good & perfect gift comes down from the Father of Light. That is good & perfect gifts, not guns.

Guns are not a gift from God. They are a gift from Charton Heston and the National Rifle Association.
It saddens me to see Christians like the person to whom you refer, espousing violence. Did Jesus protect himself with a gun? Interesting question.
In fact, when Peter cut off the ear of the high priest's slave, Jesus told Peter to put his sword away. Then Jesus healed the man. Maybe some of the paranoid religious wrong people forgot to read the Bible.
The religious right is neither.

well the word christian can mean nothing if u dont know the tru meaning of it.
im a christian and i dont agree that guns are gift form GOD..seriously, who would think such a thing like that. and i dont even agree with people to having guns "for protection"at home or w/e. there are many ways of selfdefense just use ur creativity when the bad comes.

"might you supply a gun to a baby?" Yes, to each my ladies. And they discovered hoiw to make use of them from an overly early age. Too unhealthy this legendary god could not do the equal with this bullshit suggestion (i.e. all-rationale excuse, cop out, ...) of loose will.

The context of turning the other cheek relates to being struck for being a Christian; God wants his people to welcome persecution for their faith and not oppose it. But when a bad guy hurts people God expects Christians to violently oppose that bad guy and guns are a good tool to do that. I want my Christian daughters to carry concealed handguns so they can shoot any bad guys who attack them. God totally supports that kind of thing. It's common sense.
