I want to hang tealights form the celling of a gazebo with clear fishing line, so they look like they are just hanging. What is the best way to do this? Thanks for all your answers!!!

My suggestion would be to go to the $ store and buy votive cups with a lip. Then rather than monofilament use a fine wire (like a jewelry wire) that would not be effected by heat.

Cut enough to make a circle of wire about two or three inches bigger than the votive. Make it into a circle then half it and twist loops on each side, tightly, at the lip of the votive to make hanging loops. Then you can attach the hanging wire to the loops.

You could make the circle larger so once you have it tight around the lip, the loops could be tall enough to accept a little double ended hook to suspend from the hanging wire, for changing tea lights.

It is so much harder to describe something than to show it.

But I hope this makes sense.

Your best bet would probably be to put them inside some sort of container and hang the container from the ceiling, mostly for several reasons:

1. The candle is going to get hot, which will cause the fishing line to melt or even catch fire
2. If you get a breeze, the candles will start swaying and will spill hot wax everywhere
3. If a tea light dies, you'll have to untie it and retie a new one. If it's just sitting in a container, you can pop the dead candle out and replace it.

I know it's not as nice to have them inside something, but if you pick something made of glass (that's wide enough to stop spillage and keep the line away from the flame), or pick something you can poke holes into (like half a pop can, painted a suitable colour - just make sure the paint is dry) you can get a nice enough effect. If you use a glass holder, just tie the string at the bottom, making sure there are four separate strings coming up from the knot.

I'd also suggest hanging them off a cross made of popsicle sticks, with string coming down off each arm (like the strings a marionette). That'll keep the fishing line off to the sides so it won't cross over the flame. Or try using something circular, made out of nothing flammable and tie the string to the four corners of it.

Good luck!

screw ring eyelets into wood, thread through fishing line to selected tension, then wrap round or tie with line to fix
