When I first started coming to YA it was out of curiosity and to learn more about Islam. Then I started meeting people here and I made some wonderful friends. I have contributed in many different categories and believe I have actually been able to help a few people.

Unfortunately I have also seen how angry and intolerant some people are. I have seen what the media has done to sway people's opinions in many different areas. I have been cloned and attacked many times for supporting Islam and being happily married to a Musim man.

So, my question is this: Do you come here to help people? To learn? To spead your beliefs? Or, be honest, do you come here to argue with people you do not agree with? And, has your time spent on Yahoo Answers affected how you feel about certain issues?

I come here for several reasons. At first, like you, I was curious. Secondly, I like helping people and have been able to give several people information they were looking for or insights into situations they were trying to change.

I also participate in order to correct misinformation being deseminated about my faith, Unitarian Universalism. I don't appreciate it when people speak from ignorance and spread misinformation that divides people.

There are many times when I won't, after reading someone's question, respond to the question. The reader has made it apparent that they are just here to make noise and spout their bigotry. My answering them will not help. They are lost to reason and are seeking the company of other bigots to empathize with them. Over simplifying and blaming may relieve emotional stress for a short time, but it never solves problems over the long haul.

It's amazing how tenacious the human mind can be when it latches on to an idea. Even in the face of empirical evidence, many people will rationalize, exceptionalize or retreat to denial in order to hold onto their preconceived idea of how things are.

I would have to say that it is a little bit of all of those things.

I come here to answer any questions that people may have about the belief system i follow. I come to learn about what others think & believe. I spread my beliefs in the form of answering people's questions who may be starting to believe the same things i believe.... and i come here to argue with people who i do not agree with.... especially when they are the types to bash people for not believing what they believe.

My time spent on yahoo answers has regretfully made me lose a lot of respect for christians. I've noticed a lot of proselytizing from their side trying to get people to believe what they believe. Yahoo answers is for discussion.... ask a question get an answer.... It's not to further the christian agenda of gaining converts. I lost a lot of respect for them because it seems they are so desperate for attention... so desperate for new followers & fresh meat.... that they do not stop at anything to sway the beliefs of everyone who isn't christian.

Mmmmmmmmmm.......

I came on this section thinking it would give me spiritual growth and knowledge.

I actually started in the Garden section, so I assumed I would get the same kind of answers...........

Boy, was I shocked!

So to answer your questions, I'm here to learn from others in all societies.
I have pointed out my views to those questions that I don't agree with.
I have defended those whose beliefs are not like mine, but have been offended by the Asker.

I have also been able to look into resources and learn about things I would never have given a moment before to look up.

This is a section of society and culture.......and it is like traveling the world and meeting different people.

Unfortunately we hide behind a screen and say things we might not to someone face to face.
It then becomes an experience with how one conducts himself and how you can better yourself as a human being and respect others and this great planet earth.

I come here because I actually enjoy having dialogue with people of other beliefs and I learn a lot as well. I also figure that maybe some people can benefit from the stuff I have learned over the years when I was undergoing my spiritual journey.

It's cheaper than a drug addiction.
It's a good outlet sometimes.
Often I do look more to give decent answers if the question seems valid.
I don't think this format is a good way of spreading faith, it even may seem to hamper it as a lot of the answers given cannot explain properly or coherently in just a few lines.
I have been in contact with some very good people.
That I enjoy.

Hello terry g!

as an engineering student, i'd always search on internet to find more about engineering things. first i came with the other name (not use it anymore) just to ask about a few question about engineering that i can't find it in the internet. After i'd use it for the first time, i became more interested but not only in the engineering things but also i want to know what people really think about my religion, Islam. i'm also want to share my knowledge and my opinion with all the people out there.

i'm so sorry terry g. when i first came, i was interested to know you after i read you 'real' answer but after i read some of your 'false' answer, i mean your clones, i really thought it was you. i become suspicious and i search and read more your answer to know who are you really are, now i know who is real you and who is not. And now, i be more interested to be your friend.

to all the clones out there, BEWARE!

I'm also interested to argue with someone who doesn't believe in God but i was too bored to argue with the ignorant especially Deep Sky. Ignorant always be ignorant.

yes! yahoo answer had affected on how i feel about certain issues. Especially about religion. and now i understand a lot more.

Assalammualaikum...

I stumbled upon Y/A and since there are so many misconceptions about Jehovah's Witnesses I figured I'd shed some light on what we really believe. I'm not here to bash but just to share my beliefs. Jehovah gave us free will to chose to believe what we want. Although we have this free will we still must be careful for God will judge us for what we choose to believe.

I'm going to be honest. I come here because I have more free time than I should and to make some of those intolerant people angry.

I come here because it's fun and informative.
I know there are quite a few people who say they don't learn anything on here, but I do just about every day....of course, I've probably got more to learn than most.
