We don't even know who wrote the book, and we cant even authenticate parts of it, and yet we attach ourselves to the book (some even take its words literally) that has little or no affiliation to god.

Yes, it talks about jesus, but could it just have been a madman's rantings about a martyr? Not only that but how do we even know if god would have wanted us to study this text (just because the bible says so is not an accurate enough source, don't forget it was wrought by human hands)

And finally, would god want us to do what we do because we take a book so literally?? (ie sins of sodom, yes i know there is a leviticus verse saying something along the lines "no man shall lie next to another like a woman" but how can we verify this is what god would have wanted??

Was Noah going through the flood 1656 years after Adam to end violence?
I say yes, look at man from then to now.
Was Abraham at 427 years after the flood, surrounded by land pirates? To be given this as a Promised Land to generation four?
Was Moses 430 years later to exit Egypt with half a million heirs headed to the Promised Land that 7 nations of land pirates still had, and not even a drink of water could be bought?
All any one has got to do is examine mankind to see that what the bible is saying is true.
Gen.8:21; The imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth.

Humans have to put forth very much effort to get it half way right here where we are born into the imperfections of sin. WE DO NOT HAVE A CLUE WHAT PERFECTION IS.
After 40 years in the wilderness to allow many rebels to die out, Joshua 5:6,10,12; did lot out the Promised Land and 480 years later Solomon, David had established enough peace for his son Solomon to build a temple and in 36 years he died. 3069 after Adam. 1413 years after flood. 997 BCE
In 391 years it all ended. 2Chr,28:1-4; Jer.7:30,31; 19:2-5; This horror as a practice was still in the days of the Mayans AND PEOPLE ACCUSE GOD OF A HELL.
So human sacrifice was going on 606 years before Christ was in Rome, world Empire #6.
All of this and God did not wipe man out and off the face of the earth.

Yes! 39 writers of 66 books over 1500 years in the writing and one author, Jehovah God. No other book could serve as a Operations Manual for humans as well as it does. When have you ever heard of 2 books that agreed with each other much less 66? Yet the Bible does.

Continually, it has been proved reliable by historical and scientific methods for where man comes from and what his purpose is. Historical and geographical features have been reliable. The places existed where the Bible said they would be. The people were found to exist in ancient writings found in clay tablets and manuscripts saying they were real people.

It tells how we should live and deal with others to have the best life. Forget about all those 1000s of self-help books. None are better than what the Bible has.

The best thing for us on a selfish basis is prophecy. Literal prophecy back when it was written and later fulfillment today. Example: Jerusalem's destruction was fortold by Jesus by 33C.E. He warned his followers to (Matt. 24: 14-19) that when they saw the "disgusting thing" begin fleeing to the mountains and other things to do. In 68C.E., the Roman armies came to destroy Jerusalem. For some reason, unknown to this day, the Roman superior forces withdrew from Jerusalem. All the other Jews rejoiced, party time. Christians though, grabbed their families and ran to the mountains. Two years later, The Romans returned and finished the job they started. The Christians were safe from the Romans but, robbers were plentiful on the way to the mountains. Part of Jesus' instructions were to not wait to gather belongings. There were some that did not listen and said, " We will be along later after we pack." Robbers did not bother the first runners because they had nothing worth robbing. But between the Romans and the robbers, those that did not listen died.

The later fulfillment is in our day. We can learn from it or die. That is our free will choice. The point is we did get a warning. A way out. And it gives us hope for a better world and a better life on earth.

Having a book that has proved to tell the truth in the past, makes it reliable for the future.

The Bible's accuracy and reliability have been proved and verified over and over again by archaeological finds produced by both believing and no believing scholars and scientists. This included verification for numerous customs, places, names, and events mentioned in the Bible.
One among many examples is the fact that for many years the existence of the Hittites (a powerful people who lived during the time of Abraham) was questioned because no archaeological digs had uncovered anything about them. Critics claimed the Hittites were pure myth. But today the critics are silenced. Abundant archaeological evidence for the existence of the Hittites during the time of Abraham has been uncovered.
Bible scholar Donald J. Wiseman notes, "The geography of Bible lands and visible remains of antiquity were gradually recorded until today more than 23,000 sites within this region and dating to Old Testament times, in their broadest sense, have been located." Nelson Glueck, a specialist in ancient literature, did an exhaustive study and concluded: "It can be stated categorically that no archaeological discovery has ever controverter a biblical reference." Well-known scholar William F. Albright, following a comprehensive studies, wrote: "Discovery after discovery has established the accuracy of innumerable details, and has brought increased recognition of the value of the Bible as a source of History."

There are more than 24,000 partial and complete manuscript copies of the New Testament. These manuscript copies are very ancient and they are available for inspection NOW. there are also some 86,000 quotations from the early church fathers and several thousand lectionaries (church-service books containing Scripture quotations used in the early centuries of Christianity). In fact, there are enough quotations from the early church fathers that even if we did not have a single copy of the Bible, scholars could still reconstruct all but 11 verses of the entire New Testament from material written within 150 to 200 years from the time of Christ. Bottom line: The New Testament has an overwhelming amount of evidence supporting its reliability.

Well you have a good question. And I also like your question on whether we should take the bible literally.

Firstly what do you look for when you read the Bible? Is it historical facts or theological facts?

The Bible is the Theology of History, it means that the authors of the Bible interpret History from a Theological perspective. Historical facts aren't important to the authors of the Bible, what is important is the theological message, the matters of faith and morals is up most in the minds of the authors.

So if you read the Bible as a historical book, you will find it unreliable. Also one needs to read the Old Testament in light of the teachings of Jesus in the New Testament.

Finally, Jesus' life is an experience for every Christian. If we live by His commands we shall experience the fullness of life that He gives us. (John 8:31-32; John 10:10)

the most commonplace version used as we talk is the King James version, that replaced into translated right into a complicated Elizabethan literature such as Shakespeare from a complicated Greek language via a King that wasn't a Christian and a conceivable gay. This King and his translators are made up of the imperfect human beings all of us are, to boot as another version made. How can we believe what replaced into translated about 400 years in the past. If God is the author of each thing and needs us so undesirable to have the word of God why won't be able to he in basic terms make a Bible seem out of nowhere written in clean English? As for those so stated as prophesies each body can construe any passage in a e book to recommend something else. you are able to likely examine Moby Dick and prophesize WW2. each body can predict that in some unspecified time sooner or later a warfare would ensue and that there'll be a rustic lower than dictatorship rule.

Some Christians may have a hard time giving evidence that the Word of God is true outside of what is written in the Word, but I have evidence because it is working for me, as well as other Christians who take it literally, just like it is written in the Word of God, praise the Lord. When I pray for people and the Lord heals them, that's all the evidence outside of what is written that I need. Glory Halleluiah! www.thehealingbook.com

Did someone actually reference Landover Baptist Church?!?!? That's hilarious! I just randomly saw this and won't pay any attention after I write, but the manuscript evidence for the bible is far better than any book in antiquity.

Always research both sides... I challenge everyone to read some articles from theses sites www.williamlanecraig.com and www.garyhabermas.com

NO, NO, and NO. It is not reliable.

A lot of what is considered immoral by today's standards would be perfectly acceptable in biblical times.

I listed on online source that you may find somewhat enlightening.
