that less people decided to keep weapons just in-case they need to defend themselves, then there would be less need to defend themselves.
like womd, gw bush decides its ok for his country to have them because hes 'trust worthy', but not others.
if he set an example for the world rather than be an antagonist, and a 'do as i say not as i do', less countries would be pisssed off with the usa.
if there were less guns there would be less chance of accidents involving children, less desensitisation to killing and so forth
its a domino effect, either way
australia has a strict gun ownership policy, and even though there may be still a few occurances of death and crime involving guns, i dread to think of what it would be like if it was a free for all.
i'd be terified to walk down the street if i knew most people had guns.
not saying all gun users are flipo's but some are.
i feel safer with a low tolerace of guns society, than a 'needing' to own a gun society

I'm with you, Brother. Unfortunately, your view is minority opinion and therefore completely irrelevant in Fascist Amerika.

There are today, an estimated 20 to 25 million hand guns in the USA. Not to mention long guns. And who would police this policy of no guns? The DEA? After 40 years and billions of dollars spend it is as easy to get drugs today then it ever was.
So why not move to Australia? Or better yet England? In England you will be put in jail if you defend yourself.
You state: "not saying all gun users are flipo's but some are."
That is about the understatement of the year. 99.9999% of gun owners are law abiding citizens and that fact is self-evident. And most crimes are committed by people using stolen guns or illegally obtained guns.
And just why hasn't this "free for all" ever happened?
Nobody ever raped a .38.

That is because Australia is a lot less bunched into cities.
The thing is guns stop quite a bit too. The first thing the tyrants do is take away the guns so that the people are defenseless. That is why it was specifically written into the US Constitution. These were people who not only owned guns but used them to defend themselves against tyranny.
And look at my post from last night. There is a very similar case from 2002, but students had guns in their car and ended if before it got so out of hand. 21 min. and everyone was defenseless. That is just stupid.

So many of the answers here demonstrate your point well. The belief that gun ownership is both necessary and effective as a means of personal protection is so deeply engrained in much of the U.S. psyche that people are unable to conceive of it being any other way. Despite the statistics that show that the majority of gun deaths are accidents in the home.
When people, whether 'good' or 'bad', expect that others have a loaded weapon, they are far more likely to shoot first lest they be shot themselves. No one wants to be the first to give up theirs, so ownership keeps increasing. It's a vicious circle. And there's no end in sight.

I know what your saying but at the same time, it's in our constitution. The right to bare arms. And I am not going to give up the small amount o protection I have in case bush goes crazy or some other power hungry idiot gets into office and tries to turn this country upside down. I want my guns so I can defend myself and my family. the other thing is, it's not like people are running around killing eachother BECAUSE we can own guns. Guns don't cause murders, people cause murders, if you don't have guns they WILL find another way.

Most people believe that once they are diagnosed with some vision problem and start wearing eye glasses or contact lenses to correct them, they will have to do so for life in order to see better. Those who want a permanent solution to improve eyesight typically resort to Lasik or other corrective eye surgeries. But you you can also improve your vision without surgery and can see perfectly well without using eyeglasses or contact lenses. You can check here to know how https://tr.im/33c02

No government has the ability to totally protect their people. I prefer to have the ability to protect my own family. The bad guys will always have guns and a way to get guns even if they steal them. Sorry, I want a fighting chance.
I promise you in Australia that all of the bad guys have guns or a means to get guns. Don't punish the good guy for a few bad guys.

Hmmm!, so what are you? Communist holdover? or just an ultra liberal European that was raised with the idea that we don't need to protect ourself, America will rescue us-they always have.
All you people will be under Islamic control is less than 50 years. You will not be allowed to do anything except bow towards Mecca. And, you will like it or else.

What difference does it make how someone is killed? Is being stabbed any better than being shot? Is having the air crushed from your lungs better than being shot or stabbed?
The fact that we have guns available does not make people use them. It is the individual who chooses to harm another person...not the gun, knife or whatever else happens to be handy.

So the only people that you want to have guns are the criminals and the government?
That's not what I want in my society. I'll keep my guns.
