I would wager a guess that more people are not afraid of flying then those who are. I think it's the sense of not being in control that gets to most of us.

Personally, I love to fly! I think it's a fantastic way to travel. Someday, with enough spare time and money, I'd love to get my pilot's license. Small planes are the coolest!

By the way... what's "normal" anyway?

Yes, it's the norm. In the early days of aviation it was pretty common to be afraid of flying, both because it was new technology and safety standards had a long way to go. Modern air travel is the safest form of transport on the planet, bar none. You are hundreds of times more likely to be killed on your way to or from the airport than you ever are once you are in the air travel system.

I've never been afraid of flying.

It's the falling and crashing that I'm afraid of.

(Just kidding, I've been flying since I was a little kid, both on big airliners, and in little cessnas and other prop planes - it's never bothered me).

I don't see why not, it's not terribly abnormal to be afraid of flying, why would it be abnormal not to be?

Yes, when an airplane is involved. No, if an airplane is not involved.
