I’m an atheist in the sense I don’t believe in an all powerful god in the Christian / Jewish / Muslim sense. So can anyone PROVE to me that such a god exists?

it cannot be proved.... thats the beauty of it.... a mind thinks in duality..... the whole language ... logic ... is based on duality..... up down.... right left... good bad... heaven hell.... etc..... thats because a mind is divided in parts...... when you were born .... you didnt have a mind..... you saw the truth everywhere.....later you were taught things.....in your house..... in school..... in society.... you read books..... now the mind has so much junk.... so many concepts.... through which ... it looks at life...... if a person is unhappy with life.... he will see pain and suffering around him.....if he is happy he will see everything is perfect........ neither of them are the truth..... because good and bad are the creation of the mind....... concepts in the mind.... they are not real.... they dont exist outside of you.... it is just what society has taught you...... to experience God.... you will have to dissolve your mind....( not kill) .... you will have to go beyond duality to unity........ for that try to know yourself..... are you just your mind or is there anything else too....... go within....... clear you mind of all thoughts..... and try and experience who you are...... many scientific discoveries have taken place in the bathtub.... where the mind is relaxed and has no thought..... that thing in you which you call "you" knows everything that is there to know..... its in everyone.... in everything.... that concsiousness.... is God...... it is beyond duality.... beyond everything..... it cannot die.... it always was... and will always be... it is beyond time.... this experience that you are expereincing is all that ..there is....

Hello, To answer your question, he never does come out and say those words directly. Instead, he constantly refers to himself as the son of man, and the son of God. Some people make the inference that Jesus is God, based on a few passages (sorry, this is from the top of my head and I don't have the exact verses): I and the father are one Jesus says, "Before Abraham was, I AM" "In the beginning was the word, the was was with God, and the Word was God. The word became flesh and dwelt among us." and a couple of others, but that is it. Some people (Christians) interpret these as to mean Jesus IS God. Those that tend to think Jesus is God's Son (and not God), tend to do it because: Jesus said the father is greater than I Jesus prayed to the father (why pray to himself) Jesus was resurrected by God Jesus sits at God's right hand, etc. Some believe Jesus is God's son, and the messiah, annointed one, etc. But not God exactly. I tend to believe He is the son of God, and I pray to God but in Jesus' name for his sacrifice for mankind (to forgive sins). I try not to get too caught up in scriptures that don't clearly say a certain theological point. That is why there are so many denominations of religion. People take a few ambiguous verses and turn them into a sect or denomination-and then bash each other for not believing what they believe. Plus I look at it like this: If Jesus is God, and we acknowledge that He is God's son, and pray to God, then we can't be in the wrong. Because if God=Jesus, then why would He be mad if it doesn't come out and say in the bible: JESUS IS GOD WORSHIP HIM. But if Jesus is only God's son, and we worship him and we consider him to be God, then if God does not=Jesus, God might not like it. That is how I reason with it in my own mind. No offense at all to people that may interpret things differently. Great question, have a great day.

Nothing can be definitely proved. Think about it.. Can you prove that the world is more than 5 minutes old, without a shadow of doubt? No way. Everything in our lives is based on assumption.
We "assume" the world exists outside the room we're in, etc.

If you can resign yourself to living within our universe of assumption, and trusting empirical knowledge, a damn good case can be made for a Creator:

If you are an Atheist then the answer to the question is easy: it is "No". Personally, if I thought it was possible for a theist to prove their spooky stories I would not be an Atheist.

You need to go back to Atheism school brother. The non-force is weak in you.

Nope! No one will be able to "PROVE" God to you. You already have it on your mind that you're not a believer, and no matter what anyone says to you, you won't accept Him. You will simply deny, reject.

You'll have to have your own experience to find Him. I read about many long time atheist having a life changing experience, that became believers, they changed their way of thinking because of what they went through..and accepted Him.

You'll see, one day I know that you're going to have something happen to you that will test this....we can't change years of thinking with just explanation, experience has a major impact....and yours is going to come.

NO!

It is impossible to prove/disprove the existance of God as he is outside of the universe and not physical and therefore cannot be 'seen' using any kind of scientific approach.

However, there are things that lead me to believe he exists such as the fact humans generally have similar morals and virtues across different civilisations. But I wouldn't be a Christian today if I hadn't felt God in my heart and seen the effects in my life.

why do some people think because you can't prove there is no god, then that means there is one, and how do you prove something does not exist when total lack of evidence is not good enough?

There is one simple thing that should prove you that God exists. Have you ever noticed that a REAL Christian seems to never be worried? When Jesus is in your heart you have that joy that other people cannot explain.
For eg: A person can be extremely rich but when stressful situations happen they are in CRISIS mode. A Xtian can be extremely poor and face unpleasant situations, but you will never see him/her depressed.
Friend, there is that peace of the mind, that security that you have when Jesus is in your heart. Non Xtians feel secure only when they have everything sweet. A Xtian feels secure whether or not life is good. In this world where you can have it all today and lose it all tomorrow, friend, that feeling of undisturbable joy and security is much more worthy.
Remember, God loves you

No I can't. Sorry.

While we are on the subject, can you prove to me King Henry the 8th existed? OK his name is written down in history, but so is Jesus. He is the Son of God.
How do we prove anything to anybody if they don't want to believe? They have already made up their own minds.

Look at the creation, study it and you will find that something has created it.
Read the Qur'an and you will find no human being has the power to write such words.
Ask the unseen God, and you will know is there... Guidance is in the "hands" of Allah
