It needs to be warm enough for them to breed and hatch. In Michigan it isn't heavy until June but sometimes by the end of summer due to dryer conditions fewer hatch.

You need damp conditions or standing water for mosquitoes to breed. For example bird baths, standing water in gutters, ponds, puddles, woody areas of shade with damp leaves, etc.

In drought type of climates or end of summer with heat and little rain then conditions become unfavorable for them.

Warm damp early summer or spring conditons after the heavy thaws of winter and rain are then usually following by the heaviest of populations.

We have a business that treats for mosquitoes. You can put pesticide dunks in ponds and spray foliage, etc. We have been doing entire subdivisions so that people can enjoy their summers outdoors.

You can get programs where they come out once a month and then no worries! Mosquito free.

Mosquitoes seem to be most active in the early evening, and they will breed anywhere that there is standing water. Examples would be inside old tires, inside garbage cans without lids, or even in dogs' water dishes, if the dishes aren't emptied and cleaned regularly.
