I totally agree with you. And what is really silly is that in some areas like casinos people can smoke and get others who are non smokers sick. My guess is that the tobacco lobby has bribed many goverment officials to not make it illegal. Or its like alcohol, when they tried Prohibition it didnt work, people got booze from bootleggers etc. It is actually more addictive than heroin. Heroin addicts who try to quit heroin and cigarettes at the same time usually cant kick the cigs, but can kick the heroin. Probably if cigarettes were invented today, the government would class it as an illegal drug, like crack.

I used to smoke for 20 yrs. But I quite, and surprisingly it was easy. Most of the stories abut the withdrawal effects, that scares the smokers, are not true. But once some one believes that stuff, then it is hard to let go.
Now about Government ban the smoking and close the tobacco giants like Philippe Morris, etc. Although I agree with you fully, but my friend, that could happen only in one place, Fantasy Land. And my reason for saying that is very simple, in the last six years have you seen any action taken by our GOV, against any corp? I didn't either, in fact every effort is taken to protect the power hungry, greedy corporations, even if goes against poor and middle class Americans.

Equality, peace and justice for all.

Well there is a long history behind this. Partly because the prohibition movement was one that was religious and protestant in nature.

You see, a lot of drugs make us unable to work, be good to our family or generally cope with life. Most addictive substances are like this. But caffiene and nicotine are different. They help us concentrate and work better. So were not seen as too bad.

In drug laws there are certain inconsitencies and irrationalities. Currently smoking is being restricted over time and being taxed out of existence.

All of the other drugs did not help with the funding and building of our nation, tobacco did. That was one of the major crops of the settlers. Our entire history as a nation is wrapping in tobacco leaves. Thus, the tobacco families have a lot of money and influence. Any other substance that causes the problems it does would be outlawed, no question. But Big Tobacco has a lot of lobbyers and they are the best.

In New York, a pack of cigs is well over $5, over $6 in most grocery stores. They think we will stop since they tax it so much. The tobacco companies are targeting their advertising to today's youth in an effort to make sure they don't start. I do believe the gov't is doing what they can to at least reduce smoking, but they can't force the companies to shut down. Maybe someday they will. Then again, on the other hand, many states are trying to make medical marijuana use legal..go figure...

Because they make money from it and I also believe it is within a persons rights to choose whether or not to smoke cigarettes or whatever else! It's not nearly as bad as crystal meth, heroin or coke. I don't know who told you these things, was it a D.A.R.E. program? Those people are full of it.

because they tried prohibition with alcohol and it didn't work
the public would never accept them selling everything in state-stores... people aren't ready for that even.

they SHOULD ban cigarettes and alcohol if they want to be consistent in our laws, but the concern is for tax money and for keeping the peace, not for consistency
